Sex Pistols 40th Birthday Cake

Original Image Source

It seems like a gazillion of my FaceBook friends are having a Birthday today – it’s crazy! One of those friends is my great pal Randy, who knows more about cool music than any person I’ve met on the planet so far. Randy! Anyway, Randy posted this photo of a Sex Pistols Birthday Cake on his Facebook Wall and it looked so cool I was moved to conduct a little search to find the original picture, which is of the cake from the 40th Birthday celebration of a guy named Paul King (see image source link above) back in May of 2008! History! If it is your birthday today, I hope it is  awesome, and that you have a cake at least as cool as the one that inspired this post!

Happy Birthday, Steve Jones Of The Sex Pistols!

Former Sex Pistols’ Guitarist and Radio Show Host, Steve Jones, was born on this day, September 3rd, in 1955! It is a bummer that Steve’s awesome radio show, Jonesy’s Jukebox (formerly brodcast on KROQ 106.7 FM radio in Los Angeles) is no longer on the air, but if you ever heard it you know why Jones is fucking legend! Happy Birthday, Steve!

Killing Joke, Gang of Four, Bauhaus, Et Al (This Photo by Geoffrey Dicker)

Walking into the Steven Kasher Gallery last night for the opening reception of Rude And Reckless was very much like flashing back to my teenage bedroom, whose walls were plastered floor to ceiling with Punk Rock posters, show flyers, stickers and album cover art until I moved out of my parents house to go to college. Punk Rock – at a time when Punk Rock was really something vital and alive – was everything to me at that time, and I was an avid collector of 7” Punk singles (which I’d pick up by the dozens at Zed Records in Long Beach, California) and punk/new wave badges. A lot of what I collected, and probably still have, seems to have been magically curated into this amazing collection of memorabilia that is sure to delight anyone who has fond memories of the British, New York or LA/Orange County punk scenes in the late ‘70s to early ‘80s. Good times. Continue reading Steven Kasher Gallery Presents Rude And Reckless: Punk/Post-Punk Graphics, 1976-82

Dan Witz: Mosh Pits, Human and Otherwise At Jonathan Levine Gallery

ABC No Rio By Dan Witz

Being a veteran of the Orange County punk scene of the late seventies/early eighties, I’ve seen my share of the cultural phenomenon known as the mosh pit. With his background as a musician in New York’s downtown post-punk noise scene of the early 1980s, the paintings of artist Dan Witz will surely strike a chord in the heart of anyone with a similar cache of experiences via his new exhibit, Mosh Pits, Human and Otherwise, up now at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. This vibrant collection features large-scale oil paintings on canvas produced by Witz over the past ten years.
