RIP Yves Saint Laurent

Fashion Designer legend Yves Saint Laurent passed away in Paris over the weekend (June 1, 2008) at age 71. God knows I never wore any of his designs nor did I carry one of the many YSL knockoff handbags available for purchase every five feet along Canal Street. But I do recall that Aerosmith name-checked him in a song called “Combination” off Rocks…which is one of their better albums from the ’70s. RIP, YSL.

Death sure is having a field day just lately. Yesterday, actor and legendary funny man Harvey Korman passed away at the age of 81, following a complication with an aneurysm four months ago. I used to watch Korman on The Carol Burnett Show when I was growing up, and he was beyond hilarious. He also voiced the alien character The Great Gazoo on The Flintstones. He rocked.

Guitarist Michelle Meldrum of metal band Meldrum passes away

Hollywood (May 21, 2008) – On May 18, Michelle Meldrum, leader of the band Meldrum and former Phantom Blue guitarist, was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank in critical condition. She passed away late afternoon Wednesday, May 21, 2008 as a result of a cystic growth on her brain that had restricted oxygen and blood flow to her brain rendering her brain dead. Meldrum had just completed writing and recording the bands soon to be released album with drummer Gene Hoglan, along with the new lineup Michele Madden (vocals) and Laura Christine (bass).
