Reminiscent of inspiring music documentaries such as The Punk Singer: A Film About Kathleen Hanna (which provided the Riot Grrrl movement founder with the substantial props she deserved), and Anvil, the Story of Anvil (a film that completely resurrected an unsung band’s entire career), My Way, focusing on singer/songwriter guitarist Rebekah Snyder-Starr, showcases one musician’s quest to find success in the music business while doing things on her own terms.
Directed by Dominique Mollee and Vinny Sisson, My Way centers on an engaging cross-country road trip taken by Starr and her close friend Annika, one of two tambourine players/back up singers in the all-femme Rebekah Starr Band, based in Starr’s home town of Kittanning, Pennsylvania. Unsatisfied in her marriage to her childhood sweetheart, and having recently been fired from her own family’s corporate business, Rebekah is clearly a woman whose dreams have outgrown her small town environment. With little to lose, and no one else in the band able to leave their day jobs or family obligations, Rebekah and Annika map out their adventure from PA to LA, where their goal is to play a gig on the Sunset Strip, and, ultimately, to shoot a video for the titular song, which is Rebekah’s personal “My way or the highway” mantra which keeps her focused on getting what she wants. It does not hurt that she is completely adorable and has actual musical talent.
Dave Grohl, Lars Ulrich and Tre Cool Are Among the Richest Drummers in The World (Image Source)
Celebrity Net Worth, a website I had no idea even existed before this morning, has just published a fun list of the Thirty Richest Drummers in the World, and it’s just the kind of thing that makes me wish I were in a room full of drummers right now, so we could discuss it. First of all, the list is comprised of all Rock Drummers, which is amazing. Also, in addition to guys you’d expect to see on the list – such as Ringo Starr (at #1) and Charlie Watts (at #6, just below The Eagles’ Don Henley and Lars Ulrich of Metallica) there are couple of BIG surprises.
Danny Carey of Tool, a band that, while totally awesome, didn’t (as far as I know) really sell a lot of records, nor are they even still together as a band, comes in at #21 with an impressive $40 Million Net Worth. Danny Carey! I would guess that Danny not only invested well, but that he also makes a good chunk of change from his Drum Clinics and the instructional videos he makes. Another surprise is Steven Adler’s placing at #29, with $15 Million in assets. Woo! As the first person to be officially fired from Guns ‘N’ Roses, hilariously, for drug abuse, it’s heartening to learn that not only is Stevennot destitute, but that he will surely be set for life as long as he doesn’t relapse. Yay, Steven! Here’s the full list:

Original Guns ‘N’ Roses Line Up, Steven Adler on Far Right
Original Guns ‘N’ Roses Drummer Steven Adler was born on this day, January 22nd in 1965. Adler (real name: Michael Coletti) has the dubious distinction of being the first member of the band to be fired by singer Axl Rose, setting a trend that would continue until Rose was the only remaining original member left in the group by the late ’90s. Happy Birthday, Steven!
On this Date, July 21st in 1987: Guns N’ Roses released their landmark debut album Appetite for Destruction, which would later spend five weeks on top of the Billboard 200 album chart. As of September 2008 the album is certified 18 times platinum. The band Guns N’ Roses in their original line-up – Axl, Slash, Duff, Steven and Izzy – were inarguable the greatest hard rock band of that era. The fact that Axl Rose could and would willingly destroy that band is proof enough to me that the man is mentally ill.
