Holiday gift shopping was so much easier (and way more fun) when I was much younger and most of my friends could be counted on to like the same things I liked. Now, I don’t know what anybody wants or needs. And while it usually covers all of your bases, nothing says “I Put No Thought Into This” quite like giving a gift card. You might as well just give the person cash. Sure, there are exceptions: like if the card is from a very niche store they like, but regardless, you will get a much better reaction if you manage to find out they really want. Today, November 11th, 2013 marks the release of Lady Gaga’s latest CD, ArtPop. The disc is most notable not so much for its musical ear-worm dancefloor-friendly shenanigans as it is for the artwork that graces the cover: a sculpture of a nude Gaga with a Gazing Ball between her legs, which was designed by Jeff Koons, one of the wealthiest and most successful contemporary artists in America. Confession: the fact that Lady Gaga managed to collaborate with Jeff Koons is the only reason I am paying any attention to this album.

Kickstarter Campaign: Mr. Smith, Spinning on a Dizzy Edge

Everybody and his brother has a Kickstarter campaign these days, but on occasion, one of them catches my eye. I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for The Cure, from the time of Three Imaginary Boys, even. So it’s understandable that I would be charmed by this fantastic, hand-crafted resin Bobblehead figure of Robert Smith, which represents the Cure front man at his most adorable.
