Kickstarter Campaign: Mr. Smith, Spinning on a Dizzy Edge

Robert Smith Figure

Everybody and his brother has a Kickstarter campaign these days, but on occasion, one of them catches my eye. I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for The Cure, from the time of Three Imaginary Boys, even. So it’s understandable that I would be charmed by this fantastic, hand-crafted resin Bobblehead figure of Robert Smith, which represents the Cure front man at his most adorable.

Created by New York-based artist Derrick Cruz, Mr. Smith: Spinning on a Dizzy Edge is the 3rd and final chapter his Musical Muses Series. According to Cruz, this triptych is an idolatrous effort to immortalize the musicians who’s sincerity and courage helped him survive the 80’s as a teen. I’m sure many of us can relate.

Read all about the genesis of this campaign and see a fun video of little Robert being put together at This Link.

For a $75.00 pledge, the first 100 backers will be guaranteed a handcrafted and painted Mr. Smith figure to be shipped by Christmas 2013, although the 7.25″ tall Robert Smith figure will be available in both painted and unpainted versions. This project will only be funded if at least $12,000 is pledged by Friday November 22nd, 2013 at 5:40PM EST, so all of you Cure collector completists will want to get on it! Visit Kickstarter at This Link to donate and get some rad swag!

Ugly Dolls Lucky Uckys: Want

Do you like Ugly Dolls? I sure do. I have a little Ugly Doll clip-on called Peaco attached to my bag at all times, so I can carry it with me wherever I go. Because Ugly Dolls are awesome. Earlier today, I was scoping out the new toys on Plastic and Plush Dot Com and came across something called Lucky Uckys “Pocket Sized Lucky Spirit Guides” – which strike me as something that surely many people would be interested in owning. Because, Pocket Sized Spirit Guides: who doesn’t need those, especially here in NYC? Apparently there will be 60 total figures in the series, or so I am led to believe by the packaging pictured above. I want them.

deviled haminal plush figure

From Plastic and Plush, a website that rarely fails to fascinate me and encourage me to waste time, comes the story of a fun toy due out this summer from designer Crystal Chesney-Thompson: a variation of her beloved Haminal, which is in this case a Plush Deviled Ham. In honor of my love for all things porcine, I would sure like to own one of these. More information on the Deviled Haminal can be found at This Link. The regular Haminal (pictured below) can be purchased for just $16.95 at This Link.
