Joshua Liner Gallery is currently hosting Amalgamation, an exhibition of new work from Kansas-based artist Kris Kuksi. This is Kuksi’s fifth solo show with Liner and it includes seven works in the artist’s signature medium of mixed media assemblage.
This handsome likeness of Lord Darth Vader is proudly displayed alongside a Tie Fighter and the back end of a Tauntaun in this photo that I snapped at the Museum of the Moving Image on a recent visit. Note that Vader is not merely an action figure in this case, but an official doll, suitable for cavorting with Barbie should she grow bored with Ken and wish to make a move to the Dark Side. From Hello Kitty Hell: Just when you think that everything that could possibly be branded with the evil feline [already has been], something else ends up in my email box. Once again, Star Wars fans die a little inside with the Hello Kitty Tie Fighter. You just know that Star Wars would have had a different (and much more apocalyptic) ending had the Tie Fighters looked like this because there would be absolutely no way to triumph over the corresponding Darth Vader. When people talk about the “dark side,” the darkest of the dark is held without questions by the cat with no mouth.
