spiderman returns to macys tday parade

Get ready, true believers — Spider-Man is back! This Thanksgiving, Marvel and Macy’s are teaming up to bring everyone’s favorite wall-crawler soaring through the skies of New York City with a brand-new balloon, making its big debut during the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade® on November 28th.

Inspired by the legendary art of John Romita Sr., the new balloon isn’t just another high-flyer — it’s a heartfelt tribute to one of the most beloved comic artists in Marvel’s history. And after a decade away, it’s time for Spidey to show off those web-slinging moves once again, celebrating Marvel’s deep roots in the Big Apple in the most epic way possible!

“It’s a perfect homecoming for Spider-Man—and for Marvel,” said Chris Fondacaro, Head of Marvel Franchise. “Since Marvel Comics #1 hit the streets in 1939, New York has been part of our DNA. There’s no better way to honor that history and the incredible legacy of John Romita Sr. than by bringing Spidey back to the Parade.”

The folks at Macy’s couldn’t be more excited to have him back. “Spider-Man is a true New York icon, just like the Parade itself,” said Jordan Dabby, producer of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “We can’t wait to see fans light up as Spidey swings above the streets of the Big Apple this Thanksgiving morning!”

This high-flying tribute brings Romita Sr.’s iconic art to life with the help of the talented artisans from Macy’s Parade Studio, who worked hand-in-hand with Marvel to capture every last detail of the classic Spidey look. From Peter Parker’s heroic stunts to his unforgettable rogues gallery and love interests, Romita Sr.’s influence is woven into the fabric of Spider-Man’s universe—and now, it’ll float proudly above NYC’s most famous streets.

Spidey and the Parade go way back. He first appeared in the lineup in 1981, later becoming Marvel’s first giant balloon in 1987. After decades of thrilling fans from Manhattan sidewalks to living rooms across the country, Spider-Man last soared with Macy’s until 2014. Now, he’s swinging back in style for 2024, ready to make the streets buzz with excitement all over again.

Spider-Man was co-created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, debuting in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962. Since then, he’s headlined The Amazing Spider-Man, taken over movie screens, inspired video games, and become a pop-culture phenomenon known and loved worldwide. But at his heart, Spidey will always be New York’s friendly neighborhood hero — and what better place to celebrate that than the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Catch all the action Thursday, November 28th, live on NBC or streaming on Peacock. Don’t miss your chance to see Spidey soar and follow the excitement with #MacysParade and @macys on social! It’s a holiday tradition with a superhero twist—and trust us, this is one swing you won’t want to miss!
