Pink Thing Of The Day: Abandoned Pink Balloon

Aside from the bright contrast of colors between the Pink Balloon and Red Standpipe Connection, what stood out for me as I came upon this scene was how snuggly the balloon was wedged between the standpipe and the building’s black exhaust grate. Someone wanted to ensure that the balloon didn’t blow away. I’m glad for that, because otherwise I would have missed it on my hunt for Pink Things.

Standing on Avenue B and looking east down 8th Street, I saw an unidentifiable Pink Thing that caught my eye, and I went to investigate. Because: Pink Thing.

Pink #1 Balloon

It was a bright Pink Mylar Balloon in the shape of a Number 1! Someone had tethered it to the railing running around the side of the Church of St. Brigid, which is situated at that corner. The balloon’s origin remains a mystery.

Balloon Saloon Exterior

We passed by the Balloon Saloon — the store dominates the northeast corner of West Broadway and Duane Streets in Tribeca — on the way to dine at The Odeon Bistro, and just had to stop and take a few photos. Balloon Saloon, which sells all kinds of inflatables, and also delivers every configuration of balloon clusters that you can imagine, was evidently voted The Most Fun Store in NYC; and you don’t even have to enter the store to see why. Because look at all of these Balloon-type Things that they have right out front!
