Surreal‘ is the word I would use to describe being in attendance at the absolutely packed Spring 2022 edition of the Affordable Art Fair, which took place in late March, but which I am just now getting around to telling you about, because things are surreal all over. Just like in the Before Times, the fair was crazy crowded — like Covid never happened. No one checked vax cards at the door and masks were optional (read: nonexistent). Is that good or bad? A sure sign that the vaccine rollout is working — and Covid is finally on the wane —  was the in-person return of the semi-annual Affordable Art Fair, which arrived  at NYC’s Metropolitan Pavilion on May 20th for four fun days of art and socializing, at long last!

While the Fair has been restaged to allow for better traffic flow and social distancing –which means many of our favorite vendors were absent (Tag Fine Arts, you were missed) — there was still lots of cool art to see,  familiar faces and new exhibitors whose artworks we are excited to bring you in this post. Let’s take a look at the triumphant return of the Affordable Art Fair!

For many New Yorkers, the fist sign of Fall might be the changing of the leaves, or a noticeable dip in temperatures; but for me, it’s the arrival of the Affordable Art Fair, which is the first big art event of the season. Whether you’re shopping for art, looking for inspiration, or just enjoy the social aspect of the fair, the AAFNYC offers something to satisfy every artistic palette. My tastes tend to run to pop and very contemporary art, so I’m going to show you a lot pieces that fit into those categories. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Canadian designer and visual artist Mara Minuzzo painted this solitary Pink Horn Chair as part of a marvelous series of Midcentury Chairs, which were on exhibit, along with a selection of her more abstract paintings, in the Lustre Contemporary booth at the recent Affordable Art Fair NYC, Spring Edition. You can see the full series of chairs, and lots more fantastic contemporary Pop art, by clicking on that link!

This year, New Yorkers definitely needed a seasonal hard reboot, and the Spring edition of the biannual Affordable Art Fair brought much-appreciated flashes of color and whimsy into the City during its exciting four-day run in late March. Whether you’re an experienced collector, someone looking to invest in a single piece for your home, or an art lover who just enjoys the inspiration and joy of browsing, the Affordable Art Fair is a great place to expose yourself to (and purchase) art from a finely curated selection of cutting-edge, contemporary galleries from across the globe. For me, this recent fair really embraced the spirt of fun and humor in art. Let’s look at a collection of my favorite fun artworks spotted at the AAFNYC for Spring 2019!
