When Pantone teamed up with Instagram to promote their 2016 Color of the Year (which, in that year, was actually two colors: Rose Quartz and Serenity), they chose muralist WERC (@W3RC) to represent NYC with this depiction of a man wearing an Armadillo as a Helmet, or something like that. Alexander McQueen was not so much a fashion designer as he was an artist who created wearable works of art. When McQueen died by his own hand at the age of 40 in February of 2010, the world lost a staggering genius whose contribution to the art world was, at that point, already unfathomably huge. Thanks to curator Andrew Bolton, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has installed a phenomenal retrospective exhibit called Savage Beauty that showcases the Haute Couture collections of McQueen in a way that will undoubtedly touch the heart and stir the mind of everyone who sees it, making the tragedy of his early death almost unbearably poignant. The Pink Fairy Armadillo is the smallest species of armadillo, growing only to approximately 3½ – 4½ inches long, excluding its tail. It is found in central Argentina, where it inhabits dry grasslands and sandy plains with thorn bushes and cacti. It has the ability to bury itself completely in a matter of seconds if frightened.
