Yes, It Exists: Andy Warhol Head Piñata

As part of its Brooklyn Ball Fundraising Event (April 22nd), the lobby of The Brooklyn Museum is currently displaying a twenty-foot-tall piñata in the shape of Andy Warhol’s head! This year’s Brooklyn Ball will celebrate the landmark partnership between the Brooklyn Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in creating the largest and most comprehensive costume collection in the world. This sounds so awesome; I wish I had a spare $500 lying around to blow on a ticket. As far as what Andy Warhol’s head made into a piñata has to do with anything, well, supposedly it will be filled with some kid of edible thing as it hangs amid “a series of food installations that also includes drinking paintings and suspended melting cheese heads.” Art!

Favorite Art: The Rock By Peter Blume

You might have noticed that posts on the blog were a little on the thin side last week, because I was away vacationing with my sister in the lovely American city of Chicago. No one will argue that Chicago is a pretty happening place for a vacation, especially if you like to visit amazing sites, eat delicious food and suffer wildly unpredictable weather. In fact, due to last weeks’ extremely shitty inclement weather in “The Windy City,” we ended up doing a lot of “indoor activities” – including one afternoon spent wandering around aimlessly inside the massive Art Institute, Chicago, which is just insane.

Meat Someone by Douglas Kolk (Click Image to Enlarge)

Geoffrey took this picture (with his hand) at the recent Armory Art Show. It has my name on it, so he sent it over to me for bloggishness. What a pal. You can see why I love him so very, very much.

RIP Jeanne-Claude

RIP Jeannne Claude

Oh man, this news breaks my heart so bad. Jeanne-Claude, one half of the husband and wife artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, has passed away of a brain aneurysm. I’ve been a huge fan of Jeanne–Claude and Christo for ages and ages, ever since I saw a documentary film about the making of their Running Fence project when I was in college. And just a few years ago I was fortunate to experience The Gates right here in NYC’s Central Park.  The snow was a foot thick on the ground and it was freezing outside but nobody seemed to mind. It was so awesome.

Pink Thing of The Day: Neon Pink Jumping Brain!

Neon Pink Brain

OK, I think you will agree that this is a truly unique pink thing. Artist Emilio Garcia is back at it with another small run of his Jumping Brain resin figure. The Neon Pink Jumping Brain is exclusive to Urban Angel Gallery. There are only 20 pieces available at £150.00 each (about $246). These are signed, numbered and include a nice plush (toupee-like) base. Because, you know, it’s ART!
