The Amber from which this Chess and Backgammon board (circa 17th century) is made provides a rich golden surface across which game pieces could be moved; a fitting stage for aristocrats to rehearse the strategic thinking used in warfare and diplomacy. This set was once owned by German Politician, Georg Schreiber.

I saw many, many breathtakingly beautiful things at The Salon Art and Design show at the Park Avenue Armory, and one of most unusual items, which I am sure I will never forget, was this three-drawer dresser by designer Kam Tin, which is covered on three sides in meticulously curated pieces of genuine Baltic Amber. This carving of the face of Jesus was created using Baltic Amber, which is petrified tree sap that hardens over centuries and becomes a coveted gemstone. I saw a ton of amber artworks when I was on a European tour of the Baltic capitals last summer, which is a trip I would recommend to anyone with enough to cash to throw down.
