Thierry Mugler took his inspiration from comic-book heroines and science-fiction, from uniforms and medieval armor, from industrial design and futuristic vehicles. The aerodynamic and robot-style looks he invented are now iconic. At the frontiers of reality, his automotive bodywork-clad creatures and cyborgs foreshadow today’s transhumanist endeavors in which body parts can actually be replaced by man-made equivalents. Preview: Russell Young’s Fame/Shame at Bertrand Delacroix Gallery, Reception September 17th

Opening Reception: Thursday, September 17th (6-8pm) 

Bertrand Delacroix Gallery is thrilled to announce FAME/SHAME, a one-time special collaboration between the gallery and famed British artist Russell Young. The artist is internationally renowned for his colorful enamel screen-print paintings of celebrities, often coated in shimmering diamond dust. In Anna Wilding’s documentary on the artist, he states:

“My art is best described as fame and shame.”

Law With Marisa Mell in Danger: Diabolik

Wow, I am in total shock at just discovering that actor John Phillip Law passed away on Tuesday of this week (May 13th, 2008). I swear to god, this is the craziest coincidence, because just this morning I put the 1968 Mario Bava-directed film Danger: Diabolik, starring Law in an utterly fabulous role, back into the mail after watching it obsessively over the past couple of days. While Law was gorgeous and amazing in this film, he will always be nearest and dearest to my heart for his role as Pygar, the Blind Angel in Roger Vadim’s Barbarella, which is one of my favorite films of all time. I will certainly have to be checking out more of Law’s filmography to posthumously honor his great career and extreme hotness. He was 70 years old.
