This interesting sculpture is called Blossom and it was created by the artist Sanford Biggers in 1970. Blossom is on exhibit (apparently on its own as opposed to being part of a particular show) at the Brooklyn Museum.
The coolest thing about living close to the NYC contemporary art scene is that you just never know what kind of unique event will pop up on your agenda. Last evening, literary journal The American Reader and the Robert Miller Gallery hosted a presentation of Robert Coover’s short story The Goldilocks Variations, which was read between musical selections from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations. It was as interesting as you can imagine.
You’ll find all kinds of whimsical, fun furniture over at design website Jellio, like this really cool Ice Cream Sandwich Bench that would look super cute in a kid’s room, or even make a statement among more traditional contemporary furniture in an adult bedroom or den. Constructed of solid foam throughout, the chocolate wafer cushions are covered in dark brown canvas, while the vanilla ice cream center is covered in cream-colored vinyl, with wooden legs.
