Navy Pier in Chicago is the place to be if you want to take a bunch of photos of a person who gets paid to hang out in a Bubba Gump Shrimp Mascot costume. Appropriate for a Pink Thing of The Day, the costume is a cheerful shade of Shrimp Pink, so that counts!

Five Points Fest did not really have a ton of cosplayers running around, at least not on the day I attended, but this dedicated fan of the animated TV show Steven Universe definitely stopped me in my tracks, dressed as they were as the likeness of Rose Quartz, a character from that show. Oh, the Pinkness.

Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush, who were Michael Jackson’s longtime costume designers, were asked to create a pair of Metal Cowboy Boots (circa 1990) for Jackson. The designers found inspiration in sabatons, the part of a knight’s armor that protected the foot. The singer wore these boots to the White House in April of 1990 to received the Artist of the Decade award from President George H.W. Bush.

Jamie and I were out at Coney Island to see the Fireworks on the Friday before the Friday before the Labor Day Weekend. As we sat eating hot dogs and fries at the boardwalk-adjacent tables by the Nathan’s that faces the beach, I noticed a Pink Panther earning some cash by posing for photos with tourists. Because a panther’s gotta make a living.
Also, Batman.
