Pink Thing of The Day: PolArt Pink Modern Victorian Ottoman and Sofa

Every year without fail, my favorite exhibitor at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) is PolArt Designs of Mexico. Each piece of their Victorian style furniture is custom-made to the end-user’s specs of finish color and fabric type, to make these pieces suitable for either indoor or outdoor use. At ICFF 2018, I was particularly smitten with this Modern Victorian Ottoman and Sofa created in a pale pink finish with complementary pink velvet fabric upholstery.  Simply breathtaking.

This Grecian Sofa (New York Circa 1820 – 25) exhibits a highly sophisticate blend of line, detailed carving and subtle color.

Sofa Arm Detail

The carved vert antique legs in the shape of dolphins are found on others sofas of the period and relate to maritime talismans. Traditionally, in Greek myth, dolphins aided shipwrecked sailors.

Chamber home design boutique and gallery on West 23rd Street is currently hosting a selection of new creations from botanically-minded Japanese artist Azuma Makoto. We especially love this bean-shaped Sofa and Table set covered in vibrant green AstroTurf! Talk about successfully bringing nature indoors!

Each piece has what looks to us like a single, sprouted Leek bulb accent. This makes more sense when you see some of the other objects designed by Makoto, such as an array of crystal glass boxes shaped like seeds, sprouted bulbs suspended in acrylic cubes, and a tabletop collection of fungi dipped in precious metals, all of which are available in the boutique through April 30th, 2016.
