One of my favorite places to visit when I am a tourist in any city, if it exists in that city, is an Aquarium. Once I’m inside, I immediately head to the jellyfish tank, to be mesmerized by the beauty and motion of these mysterious sea creatures. It is no surprise then that I was immediately drawn to the Merenda Wallpaper booth at the recent ICFF / NYCxDesign event when I saw their fantastic wallpaper covered with exotic Jellyfish; a design which they call Medusa. Lets take a closer look.

Hammerhead Shark Attack
On the Friday of Labor Day weekend, we finally made it out to Coney Island for our annual evening of fun and adventure on the boardwalk, culminating in their spectacular summer fireworks display! It’s always a good time, but this year we mixed it up a little with a visit to the Freak Bar, and that is where we spotted this taxidermy Hammerhead Shark!

Modern Art Monday Presents: Vincent Van Gogh, Two Crabs
After his January 1889 lease from the hospital in Arles, Vincent Van Gogh embarked on a series of still lifes, including crab studies. This painting my show the same crab upright and on its back. Parallel strokes sculpt the creature’s form on an exuberant, sea-like surface.

Eye On Design: Thierry Mugler’s Meduse De Bal Gown
Thierry Mugler’s Méduse de bal gown — from his haute couture fall/winter 1999-2000 collection, Les Méduses — was inspired by the graceful movement of jellyfish. The strapless evening gown features a coated and pleated organza bodice that is designed to resemble the bell of a jellyfish, flowing and undulating with each movement.
