A Hard Days Night was on the IFC last night (Paul McCartney in 1964 = Cutest Boy Ever) and I’m glad I forgot to switch channels once The Beatles were done looking fucking hot and making the little girls scream, because the film that came on right after turned out to be one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen – and anyone who’s seen my Netflix queue can tell you that documentaries are my jam. The film is called The Bridge and it documents a year in the life of San Francisco’s marvelous Golden Gate Bridge as told by families and friends of those who’ve committed suicide by jumping from it. Next time you’re scouring Netflix for some top rated films to put in your queue, here’s one to avoid at all costs: Last Days – Gus Van Sant’s obtuse, meandering, painfully dull, hypothesized portrait of the final days of the late Kurt Cobain. Gee whiz, this movie is such a stunning piece of cinematic trash that to call it “The Worst Movie Ever in the Universe of All Time” is to perhaps pay it too high of a compliment. I take lot of heat for being such a shameless, diehard fan of reality TV shows like The Amazing Race, Survivor, American Idol and all those embarrassingly addictive programs on Bravo such as Project Runway, Top Chef and Top Design. Clothes, food, home décor: It’s like there is a reality show specifically geared to feed each of my secret obsessions! Hurray for digital cable!
