Here’s a fun item that I spotted at the recent National Stationery Show / New York Now Gift Show: Officially Licensed Kiss Rollerball Pens! Kiss‘ bassist and mouthpiece Gene Simmons may be an arrogant blowhard, but he also really knows audience. The Kiss Army of fans are nothing if not a fiercely loyal legion who will purchase virtually anything that has the Kiss name it. And now at last the time of the Official Kiss Pen has come!
This design is called the Rock Poster!
This one is called 1978!
Each pen comes with its own colorful case, to keep it safe and in pristine condition between uses! Please take note that the Spaceman character is fully represented by both guitarists Ace FrehleyandTommy Thayer!
And since these pens and accessories are all officially licensed, you can enjoy them with no fear of litigation!

Kiss Writing Instrument Designs Are (Left to Right): Rock Poster, Heavy Metal and 1978
Hey what’s up. Do you happen to be a fan of the legendary rock band Kiss? It’s OK to admit it. Even though Gene Simmons is the Donald Trump of Rock, there are no judgments here. But if that is the case, then you may want to know that for one night only, Wednesday, May 25th at 7:00 PM, Fathom Events will bring KISS to the big screen for an explosive event in KISS Rocks Vegas, a live concert film that no fan will want to miss.
KISS Rocks Vegas, was filmed in November 2014, when KISS invaded The Joint, the infamous music venue at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, for a historic nine-show run. Woo! Now, for only one night, fans will be able to experience this spectacular show on the big screen as KISS Rocks Vegas hits select cinemas nationwide!
I attended a press screening for the film and I can’t deny that it is not only very entertaining, but also quite impressive! KISS have been rocking it since I was in grade school and, four decades and nearly innumerable rotating guitarists later, they don’t appear to be any worse for wear. Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer have been onboard for twenty or so years at this point, and they know how all the parts fit together. You can see why Gene and Paul trust them not to fuck anything up.
In addition to the live show, which flaunts a good mix of must-hear hits and catalog favortites, plus stuff blowing up real good, there is short section at the front of the film, the making of KISS Rocks Vegas, featuring individual interviews with the band members and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage! it’s very interesting to hear how the logistic of placing an arena-sized show into a smller venue all came together.
So join the KISS Army, and sing along to some of your favorite songs as we “Rock & Roll All Nite!”

When everyone else was waiting on line to get into the Mark Ryden exhibit across the street, I was in the newest addition to the Paul Kasmin Gallery empire taking photos of Eric Parker’s latest show (and third solo-exhibition with the gallery), which had opened the previous night. Because timing is everything.

Talking Point, Detail (Above and Below)
Erik Parker’s Undertow is an exhibition of new paintings which represent a confluence of ideas and styles explored in previous bodies of work including the Maps, Heads, Landscapes and Hieroglyphics. Parker’s iconic, highly-saturated palette and intricate compositions are amplified by collage and airbrush techniques that create a balance of density and open space.
Taste Maker, 2015
Undertow offers insight into the evolution of Parker’s work over the last two decades. Here, the artist continues to critically chart the world’s current political, social, and economic landscapes with compositions brimming with references to media, popular culture, music, and art history. Synthesizing multiple elements from his myriad styles into new dynamic compositions, the artist works at breaking down the metanarratives of late modernist painting while simultaneously digesting the pictorial chatter of scrolling feeds of social media.
Highlighted in the exhibition are Parker’s new shaped canvases with which he develops the narrative possibilities of form. In Offshore the support structure of the canvas takes the shape of binocular lenses, framing the action as if seen from afar.
Parker’s large-scale, two-part shaped canvas titled Disconnected, features a Pyramid representing the global elite. The pyramid is physically separated from the second canvas – literally leaving the rest of the picture, or perhaps, society behind.

Erik Parker’s Undertow will be on Exhibit Through January 23rd, 2016 at Paul Kasmin Gallery, Located at 297 Tenth Avenue in the Chelsea Gallery. District.
“Just when you thought Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley could not sell out any further in their shameless worship of the Almighty Dollar, this comes along. Story from Ultimate Classic Rock:
The hottest band in the world — Kiss — are teaming up with Hello Kitty for a new animated series on the Hub Network titled (what else?) Kiss Hello Kitty — and no, we did not just make that up.
The iconic rock group have never exactly been reticent about, shall we say, “expanding their markets” through licensing deals, and they first entered into the seemingly unlikely partnership with Hello Kitty in 2010. According to a press release, “This global collection of hugely desirable co-branded products connects Kiss and Hello Kitty followers all over the world with hundreds of licensed items across all categories, including apparel, toys, electronics, stationery, and back to school merchandise, among others.”
With the success of that venture, the band have extended the relationship with the announcement of the upcoming show, which will be produced in a joint venture between Kiss Catalogue Ltd. and Sanrio, the makers of Hello Kitty. The show will air on the Hub Network, the fastest-growing children’s cable network. Gene Simmons will serve as one of the show’s producers.
“The Hub Network is the perfect home for the TV show, ‘Kiss Hello Kitty,’” Simmons says. “We are incredibly excited about this opportunity and want to make all our millions of fans worldwide proud of a show they can watch with the whole family.”
Paul Stanley adds, “Knowing and viewing the Hub as I do daily with my three children, it is the perfect home for us to bring the ‘Kiss Hello Kitty’ juggernaut to yet another generation.”
Sanrio’s operating officer, Roberto Lanzi, acknowledges the show seems unlikely on the surface, calling it “for sure the most unexpected” Hello Kitty crossover. “The idea sounded crazy in the beginning,” he admits. “But Gene and Paul are not only rock icons, they are incredible creative minds who were soon able to see a future success.”
Kiss Hello Kitty is currently in the early stages of development. No air dates have yet been announced.”
Paul Stanley (born Stanley Eisen) singer and guitarist for Kiss was born on this day, January 20th, in 1952! The above is the least horrifying Paul-post-plastic surgery photo I could find. (Of course, you can always count on an expert rhinoplasty specialist in Miami to get the job done right.) Also, Nice wig! Happy Birthday Paul!
