Atlantic City has long been a popular option for New York City residents seeking a different kind of night out, or even a weekend away. As you might expect, this sort of activity more or less came to a halt during the worst of the pandemic in 2020. Now, however, we’re seeing a little bit of a tourism push from Atlantic City — and it appears to be working. A May article on NorthJersey.com offered a number of positive indicators regarding tourists returning to Atlantic City, and activity returning to the area’s casino resorts specifically.
It’s a lot of fun to know that this option is back on the table, and we figured now as good a time as any to offer a few tips to New Yorkers who want to make the trip. Here are a few things to know if you’re eyeing a night out (or weekend away) in Atlantic City.
Hey what’s up. Do you happen to be a fan of the legendary rock band Kiss? It’s OK to admit it. Even though Gene Simmons is the Donald Trump of Rock, there are no judgments here. But if that is the case, then you may want to know that for one night only, Wednesday, May 25th at 7:00 PM, Fathom Events will bring KISS to the big screen for an explosive event in KISS Rocks Vegas, a live concert film that no fan will want to miss.
KISS Rocks Vegas, was filmed in November 2014, when KISS invaded The Joint, the infamous music venue at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, for a historic nine-show run. Woo! Now, for only one night, fans will be able to experience this spectacular show on the big screen as KISS Rocks Vegas hits select cinemas nationwide!
I attended a press screening for the film and I can’t deny that it is not only very entertaining, but also quite impressive! KISS have been rocking it since I was in grade school and, four decades and nearly innumerable rotating guitarists later, they don’t appear to be any worse for wear. Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer have been onboard for twenty or so years at this point, and they know how all the parts fit together. You can see why Gene and Paul trust them not to fuck anything up.
In addition to the live show, which flaunts a good mix of must-hear hits and catalog favortites, plus stuff blowing up real good, there is short section at the front of the film, the making of KISS Rocks Vegas, featuring individual interviews with the band members and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage! it’s very interesting to hear how the logistic of placing an arena-sized show into a smller venue all came together.
So join the KISS Army, and sing along to some of your favorite songs as we “Rock & Roll All Nite!”

Tonight’s Episode (Airdate March 26th, 2013): Living the Dream
On the season four finale of Syfy’s Face Off, the final three – Anthony, Wayne and Kris – head to Vegas for a showdown at The Wynn that’s all about Living the Dream!
Tonight, the Final Three battle for the win at The Wynne in Las Vegas, where one victor will take it all. At the top of the episode, we are treated to a recap of all the great work that Anthony, Wayne and Kris have completed all season. It sure looks like these guys are the three that were meant to go to the end. This morning, it is time for the contestants to catch up with their loved ones after being out of touch for over two months. In the kitchen of a very quiet house in the Hills of LA, Wayne Skypes with his wife. Anthony has a tearful chat with with his folks, while Kris has his wife and two kids to catch up with. There are some emotional tears, but each guy says this is just a reminder of why they are doing this in the first place.
Final Spotlight Challenge
In the lab, McKenzie meets the artists accompanied by James Santos, Artistic Director of Le Reve The Dream, a show that takes place in the Theater at the Wynne Resort in Las Vegas. This over-the-top aquatic, aerial and acrobatic theatrical production includes over ninety artists and Olympic athletes in the cast. For their final Spotlight Challenge, the three will create two fantasy make-up looks for performers in Le Reve The Dream. One character must be a Dream Thief; a character that “collects dreams in the water” and is described as an “adrenaline junky who cannot get enough danger in [his] world.” A Dream Thief, MacKenzie explains, comes to life in the depths of the subconscious. So, if one character must be a Dream Thief, then the other is a victim who has something the thief wants to steal. Easy enough.
Each finalist must pick a ‘dream theme such’ as gothic, cosmic, whimsical, ethereal or supernatural, to help guide his looks. Anthony picks Sinister, from which he can come up with something mischievous and evil, but also whimsical, which gives him a broad spectrum of expressions to add character to his creature’s face. Wayne says going with Supernatural feels cool to him, because it’s wide open for interpretation. Kris picks Ethereal for its celestial properties that will fit into the Le Reve The Dream show. A huge element that they will have to consider as they work is the water factor, as the set includes a one million gallon tank! The make-ups, therefore, will need to be 100% waterproof. Anthony admits he’s never done waterproof make up before.
Of course, they are each going to need some help with this project, so here come half a dozen of the recently eliminated contestants including Eric Fox, House, Autumn, Meagan, Eric Z and Alam to help them get the job done. Each contestant can choose two people for his team. Wayne immediately chooses Eric F before anyone can nab him, and his second choice is Meagan. Kris picks House and Alam. Anthony gets Eric Z and Autumn.
Bryan & Michael Voltaggio (All Photos Except This One By Anne Raso)
Handsome and talented brothers sporting as many tattoos as members of Motley Crue, Chefs Michael and Bryan Voltaggio first gained national recognition as contestants on Bravo TV’s Top Chef: Las Vegas – my personal favorite season of Top Chef to date. Out of four very charismatic finalists, the competition ended with Michael taking home the title of Top Chef and Bryan finishing a close second to his brother. Sibling rivalry, not kidding! While I confess that I was a total Bryan fan – cheering for him to pull off a victory – it cannot be denied that Michael was a deserving champion. Because let’s face it, these guys can cook.
Already accomplished chefs and noted restaurateurs before appearing on Top Chef, the Brothers Voltaggio are now bona fide culinary Rock Stars, having just released a massive, coffee-table-sized recipe book, Volt Ink, and entering into a partnership with Williams Sonoma to promote their products. The Volts are also set to debut their first TV special, Voltaggios Take On: Thanksgiving, premiering November 6, 2011 at 8:00 PM on the Cooking Channel.
Bryan V Signs a Copy of Volt Ink for a Fan
The Voltaggios were in NYC last evening to host a book signing at the Williams Sonoma store in Columbus Circle, which was followed by a private party to celebrate the book, the Cooking Channel special, and the Voltaggio’s staggering degree of awesomeness in general. While sampling selections featured in the special’s holiday menu (bites of roast turkey, sautéed Brussels sprouts with bacon, chestnut dressing and a delectable pumpkin cheesecake garnished with fresh orange that was just insane) partiers were treated to a brief preview of the special, which is lots of fun and entertaining as well as educational. Voltaggios Take On: Thanksgiving finds chefs Bryan and Michael putting their unique twist on classic recipes that reveal their secrets for creating an impressively delicious meal. Packed with survival tips to get you through America’s toughest culinary challenge, this hour-long special is sure to inspire. Voltaggios Take On: Thanksgiving is the ultimate modern twist on our favorite holiday feast. I will be watching it for sure!
Michael V and Gail
It was great to get the chance to meet both Michael and Bryan at the party and to speak with them briefly. They are both super friendly, and they genuinely seem to really love their fans. Thanks to Williams Sonoma for throwing such a fun bash and also for the gift bag which contained a T Shirt emblazoned with the words “Food Person” (yes) and a potato ricer, the tool with which the Volts make their famous creamy mashed potatoes. Be sure to tune in to Voltaggios Take On: Thanksgiving, on Sunday, November 6th at 8:00 PM on the Cooking Channel (check your local listings for broadcast information) to see the potato ricer in action!
