Yesterday I had an interesting comment added to This Post from a Dutch Jimi Hendrix fan and collector named Ben. Ben has a web page where he documents stories and images from the 1967 US Summer Tour by The Monkees on which The Jimi Hendrix Experience were the support act. Ben writes, “if you are a Fan of The Showdowners, Lynn Randell (other support acts on the tour) or The Monkees and you have been to the concerts seen below then I would like to speak to you. I am very interested in your “Experience” from those days. I hope you will be able to help me out. Any help will be welcome, from your personal memories, photos, newspaper clippings and even sound or/and video recordings from these concerts where The Jimi Hendrix Experience was the support act.” You can visit Ben’s page at This Link and if you were at one of these shows and have any information to contribute to his quest you can email him at maythisbelove@yahoo.com. Good luck, Ben!

Movie Review: Going the Distance is Surprisingly Hilarious and Fun!

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long Grope Each Other in Going the Distance
As big of a movie fan as I admit to being, generally speaking, I would much prefer to have my eyes gouged out with a hot poker than sit through a Romantic Comedy. Because contrary to popular belief, the lowest form of humor is not the pun, it is the romantic comedy: which is almost without exception neither romantic nor funny. So, when I made the decision to attend a screening last evening of the new Drew Barrymore flick, Going The Distance, I was hedging bets that I’d find it irredeemably heinous: especially based on the commercials which make this film seem like viewing it would be only slightly more fun than root canal therapy. But, surprise! I was wrong: Going the Distance is awesome!

Memory Of An Awesome Bicentennial Concert, 1976

Fun Fun Fun
On This Date, July 3rd, in 1976: Brian Wilson made his first appearance in 11 years with The Beach Boys in concert in Anaheim, CA at Anaheim Stadium. It was a co-headlining show with the band America – very appropriate to celebrate the country’s Bicentennial! And yes, I was there! Man, that was a great summer of an amazing year where I was lucky enough to attend concerts by The Who, Queen, Peter Frampton, Yes, Aerosmith and Jeff Beck, among others that my well-worn memory is now too hazy to recall. Happy holiday weekend, everybody!

First Mister Softee Cone of the Season!
You are probably not even going to believe this, but I went outside just now to take a walk to the CVS with my co-worker, Chantale, and when we were walking back to the office there was a Mister Softee truck parked right at the curb! Holy frozen goodness, Batman; there is surely nothing quite like enjoying your first Mister Softee cone of the season while sitting on a sun-warmed park bench, being caressed by the breeze coming off the Hudson. Today is a good day.
