Pop Culture-themed Tile Mosaics by the French Street Artist known as Invader can be found all over the city, if you know to look up, and aren’t always staring at your fucking phone.

Spiderman Tile Mosaic

This one of a diminutive Spiderman, captured in the process of scaling the side of a building, adorns the front façade of what used to be a bank, located on the southwest corner of 2nd Avenue and St. Marks Place in NYCs east village. I believe it has been there since late 2015.

There’s cheap but reliable BBQ restaurant just across the street. And just around the corner to the right, you’ll see these familiar buildings.

Os Gemeos B-Boy Mural on 2nd Avenue

The Brazilian mural artists – twin brothers – known as Os Gemeos have painted another one of their epic murals in the East Village on the south-facing facade of 26 Second Avenue at 1st Street, on the vacant lot that formerly housed one of the of rare gas stations that you never see in the city. The mural went up around the third week of August.

The hip-hop influenced old school B-Boy appears to be emerging from inside the building through the concrete wall, while carrying an eighties-style boombox. The new mural will likely remain intact until the new ten-story residential development begins to rise next door. Sigh.

This colorful and fun mural by Peelander-Yellow of Peelander-Z, the Japanese Action Comic Punk Band based in NYC is located on East 2nd Street, between 2nd Avenue and Bowery. It’s evidently been up since February, but the heinous weather has kept me from doing much exploring, so I just spotted it for the first time this past weekend, when the temps soared into the high 60s! Woo! This looks like some kind of Space Pig, to me. Space Pig!
