To me it seems like the ’90s just happened, but I was recently reminded that those born in 1990 are now over 30 years old. Yeah, crazy. The passage of time takes people by surprise, which is one of the reasons nostalgia washes over us in reoccurring waves. Currently, everything old is new again when it comes to the resurgence of Nineties pop culture!
From dance trends, to toys, food, fashion, music and more — we’re consumed with inspiration that allows us to live in the past. It’s no secret that people are willing to spend more if the product reminds them fondly of a previous time, and marketers have been tapping into the trend to drive purchasing power. Just in time for Prime Day, here are a few products from the no-so-distant past that you’re probably seeing more of these days, especially on social media.
There is nothing that I do not love about this video for the blistering instrumental “Clear Eyes Clear Skies” by “soft shredder” guitarist Hugh Myrone. “Clear Eyes Clear Skies” appears on the soundtrack to Drift Stage, an arcade racing game that is coming soon to PC/MAC and PS4, and it can also be found on Myrone’s new album, Drift Stage, Vol 1., which is out now. FAILE: Savage/Sacred Young Minds is a crazy fun exhibit that you should make an effort to see before it closes in just under a month. For those who are unfamiliar, FAILE is a Brooklyn-based collaboration between artists Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller. Through their bold and provocative artworks, they raise questions about our relationship to consumer culture, religious traditions, and the urban environment, by blurring the boundaries between fine art, street art, and popular culture. This exhibit covers a broad scope of Faile’s impressive resume.
