Michael Jackson Mural By Kobra

Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra continues to make the rounds in NYC, but this mural of Michael Jackson’s Face as both a child and an adult actually went up some time ago, in late August of 2018. I have walked by it a bunch of times and that orange food truck is always there, so it’s hard to get a clear shot.

Kobra MJ Close Up

Dead for nearly a decade at this point (as hard to believe as that is) Jackson continues to be a highly polarizing figure, especially in light of the just-aired HBO documentary Leaving Neverland, which most definitely lends considerable credence to the child abuse allegations of which Jackson was charged and then famously acquitted. It just makes me sad for everyone involved. I wonder how long it will be now before this mural is painted over.

The Michael Jackson Mural is painted on the side of an apartment building located at the Southeast corner First Avenue and East 11th Street in NYC.

Stan Lee Memorial Spiderman Mural

London-based artist Otto Schade lends his signature “ribbon” style to this fun Spiderman mural, which he painted in memory of Spiderman creator Stan Lee, who passed away in November of 2018. The mural is part of the East Village Walls project, which rotates new murals on the wall outside Julie’s Vintage Clothing Boutique at 84 East 2nd Street (just west of First Ave) every three to four months. See it while you can!

Eagle Eye Fish Mural on East 2nd Street

Eagle Eye Fish Mural

I passed by this enigmatic mural, located on the north side of 2nd Street, just west of First Avenue, (right next to Julie’s Vintage) while on the way to meet Geoffrey for lunch. Part Eagle, part, Eyeball and part Fish, this work of street art really has everything! The artist’s signature is visible in the lower, right corner of the above image, but I am unable to decipher it or find him or her via a search for “Jonac” —  which is what the signature appears to say.  Any clues on the artist’s identity, please leave it in the comments – thanks!

Note: The artist has been correctly identified as Lonac in the comments below, many thanks!!

This intriguing mural by graffiti artist Zesoner — which depicts his stylized tag “Zeso” — went up on the southeast corner of 13th Street at First Avenue back in 2015, but it still looks vibrant despite a year’s exposure to the elements! The orange and white-striped Traffic Cones that look like Lighthouses are one of Zeso’s signature motifs. See more of his fun work at Zeso Art Dot Com!

There’s a brand new Shepard Fairey mural now covering the southern exposure of the building on southwest the corner of First Avenue and 11th Street; former home to Schnitz, and the Viennese bakery Something Sweet before that.

Work on the Rise Above mural was finished as of October 2nd and it took Fairey only about 4 or 5 days to complete. The model is Fairey’s eldest daughter, at age 3 years (she’s now 11).

Buff Monster: I Love NY Mural

I see this mural every time I take the M15 Select Bus home from work and it stops at the First Street and First Avenue stop, because it is right there, basically.

A couple of days ago, I got off the bus at that stop and took this photo, because Buff Monster is awesome.
