There is so much beauty in NYC, and you don’t have to look very far to find it. I was getting my steps in one Sunday afternoon when I noticed this beautiful, mirror-polished stainless steel abstract sculpture for first time. I took a handful of photos and then did some Googling to get the lowdown on this artwork, and this is what I found out. Artist David Fried’s Stemmer (part of an eponymous sculpture series ) is a public artwork that was permanently installed on the northeast corner of 34th Street and First Avenue in April of 2019, while the site (which is the courtyard of a high-rise apartment building) was still under construction, and before the plaza officially opened to the public in May. Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra continues to make the rounds in NYC, but this mural, entitled Black or White, of Michael Jackson’s Face as both a child and an adult actually went up some time ago, in late August of 2018. I have walked by it a bunch of times and that orange food truck is always there, so it’s hard to get a clear shot. Continue reading Michael Jackson Mural By Kobra

Stan Lee Memorial Spiderman Mural

London-based artist Otto Schade lends his signature “ribbon” style to this fun Spiderman mural, which he painted in memory of Spiderman creator Stan Lee, who passed away in November of 2018. The mural is part of the East Village Walls project, which rotates new murals on the wall outside Julie’s Vintage Clothing Boutique at 84 East 2nd Street (just west of First Ave) every three to four months. See it while you can!

Eagle Eye Fish Mural on East 2nd Street

I passed by this enigmatic mural, located on the north side of 2nd Street, just west of First Avenue, (right next to Julie’s Vintage) while on the way to meet Geoffrey for lunch. Part Eagle, part, Eyeball and part Fish, this work of street art really has everything! The artist’s signature is visible in the lower, right corner of the above image, but I am unable to decipher it or find him or her via a search for “Jonac” —  which is what the signature appears to say.  Any clues on the artist’s identity, please leave it in the comments – thanks!

Note: The artist has been correctly identified as Lonac in the comments below, many thanks!!

Zesoner Mural on 13th Street

This intriguing mural by graffiti artist Zesoner — which depicts his stylized tag “Zeso” — went up on the southeast corner of 13th Street at First Avenue back in 2015, but it still looks vibrant despite a year’s exposure to the elements! The orange and white-striped Traffic Cones that look like Lighthouses are one of Zeso’s signature motifs. See more of his fun work at Zeso Art Dot Com!
