If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Bob Stinson of The Replacements took a drunken detour into Dante’s Inferno, well, Stinson’s Inferno answers that question in the most gloriously unhinged way possible. This 24-page graphic novel is a punk-rock fever dream where LA’s Sunset Strip stands in for Hell, and Stinson, guided by none other than Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones (as Virgil), stumbles his way through an afterlife packed with fallen rock gods. Yes, it exists.

Modern Art Monday Presents: Audrey Flack Leonardo’s Lady
Audrey Flack (1931 – 2024) was the most prominent woman artist to gain recognition as a photorealist in the 1960s and 1970s. She approached the genre of still life, which for centuries had been considered unprestigious by European and North American standards, with irreverent pleasure. Leonardo’s Lady (1974) presents tokens of traditional femininity (a jeweled bubble, embroidered ribbon, pink rose, and pressed powder compact), frivolity (effervescent champagne and shiny objects), and sexuality (a ripe, dripping pear and a reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci‘s portrait of Francis I’s reputed mistress). Pink Thing of The Day: Pink Magazine Kiosk in Little Tokyo
When I was vacationing in Los Angles at Christmastime, I spent a day exploring and visiting various museums in downtown. That adventure included a walk through the very fun and colorful Little Tokyo neighborhood near East 2nd Street, which is were saw this Pink Magazine (best guess) Kiosk, which was sadly closed for business, as it was a Sunday. I wonder what they sell?

Dwayne Hansen’s 1974 sculpture of a Drug Addict slumped on the ground with a heroin needle in hand is rooted in the artist’s commitment to raise social consciousness by exposing the country’s harsh realities. In 1969, Hanson declared, “it is time for the artist to be ugly, obvious, and shock the people.”

Blue For You Mural By D*Face
In August of 2022, renowned street artist D*Face unveiled a striking mural entitled Blue For You in Beverly Hills. This artwork features a contemplative woman with blue hair, wearing a pink sweater, and resting her head on her hand. The mural was created in collaboration with Branded Arts. I spotted this beauty while on vacation in December when I was on my way to meet a friend for Breakfast.
