NYC Collage Artist Michael Anderson Hospitalized After Falling From Building

Michael Anderson Artist

Thanks to Cojo at Art Sucks for this story:

Michael Anderson, the 45-year-old legendary NYC collage artist and White Hot Magazine art world photographer who is noted for designing the graffiti sticker lobby at the Ace Hotel, and the Eco-Friendly Times Square billboard for Target was admitted to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan on Saturday after having fallen off a building, breaking his back.

UPDATE: Still hospitalized, Michael is in the early stages of his recovery process. He is lucid and has been able to get online and respond to concerned posts. He is positive about his injuries and has messaged me through FaceBook that he “will make a complete recovery.”

Michael Anderson’s friends have just setup an Indiegogo account in his name, Michael Anderson Recovery Project, to help out with his medical expenses (which most likely will be substantial). Any amount will help and all funds will go to Michael’s recovery, regardless of how much is raised. Get well, Michael!

Greek Fire Release New Song In Support of Leukemia Stricken Drummer

Drummer Johnny Venus of Greek Fire
Drummer Johnny Venus of Greek Fire

In February 2012, shortly after completing a tour of Japan, Johnny Venus, drummer for American rock band Greek Fire (and longtime drum tech for Story of The Year) was diagnosed with Leukemia. Devastating news, to be sure. Representatives for the band have issued a statement saying that, “Johnny is fighting the battle of his life, and even in these darkest of times his incredible courage and strength inspired Johnny’s fellow band mates to write a song about this profoundly difficult and emotional journey.”

The song, “If this is the End (The Sound of Belief)” was made into a video, which Greek Fire released via YouTube on May 15th, 2012. Watch “If this is the End (The Sound of Belief)” at This Link. The statement continues that, “The video was made free of charge by a group of amazing and selfless individuals who donated their time and talents, and the result is a heartfelt and emotional offering of hope and support for anyone, anywhere, who has experience with cancer. Greek Fire is releasing this video in hope that it can help people find the courage and strength to fight with all of their heart, and as a reminder that there are people everywhere in the world fighting with them. Please share this video with as many people as you can. Nothing will make Johnny Venus and the band prouder than if the song can help someone, somewhere, in some way.”

“If this is the End (The Sound of Belief)” is also available to purchase/download via iTunes, Amazon, and countless other outlets. 100% of proceeds generated from the sale of  the song will go directly to The Johnny Venus Leukemia Fund to help him with the cost of his medical treatments. You can also make a donation directly to Johnny’s fund, by clicking This Link. Get well now, Johnny!

Metal Guitarist/Producer James Murphy Suffers Brain Tumor Relapse

James Murphy Has Brain Tumor Relapse; Donations Welcome

James Murphy, former guitarist of both Death and Testament, as well as founding member of the death metal band Disincarnate, has had a relapse of the brain tumor that sidelined him back in 2001. Murphy stated that the tumor had returned but that it was a non malignant and that it was being treated pharmacologically. Unfortunately, those medications have serious side effects that have left him unable to work. The option for different medications is available, but at a cost of over $1000 a month, and he needs a minimum of 6 months of medication for treatment to be effective. With his medical expenses extremely high and James not being able to work due to the side effects of the current medications, the metal community is being asked to come together and help one of their brothers and donate to help him beat this once and for all.

To donate funds to help offset James’ medical bills please visit PayPal at this secure link. Thank You!
