In the above photo you can see artist Doktor A modeling his hand-crafted Safety Pin Sunglasses inspired by HR Giger’s late ’70s painting, Illuminatus II (seen on the left in the above photo). While these would certainly get you noticed on the beach, I bet they would have also been all the rage in the late ’70s London Punk Scene! One of last night’s hot-ticket gallery openings was the debut of Portland-based artist Josh Keyes’ new show, Migration, at Jonathan Levine in Chelsea. Migration features a series of paintings on panel, study drawings on paper and a ten-foot canvas entitled Stampede (See above), which is the artist’s largest painting to date.

Happy Birthday, Peter Max!
Legendary Pop artist and philanthropist Peter Max was born on this day, October 19th in 1937. I bought my first original Peter Max painting this past summer while I was on my awesome Carnival Cruise through the western Caribbean. It now hangs on the wall in The Chickpad, making my home look even cooler than it did before! Happy Birthday, Peter!
