Post yesterday’s crazy snow storm, I was out exploring today and walked south from Central Park down Fifth Avenue and around the front of the Plaza Hotel, just because. Right across from the Plaza’s posh entrance, on West 58th Street, there sits this mythic Bull Statue by the great Pablo Picasso, which was added in 2000 to what is actually the north facade of The Solow Building, also referred to as 9 West 57th Street.

These free-form, abstract Aluminum sculptures are part of a series called Mermade/Dionysus and the Pirates, created in 1999 by artist Dan George for the MTA’s Arts for Transit program. I think they are pretty cool!
I took these photos on the Q Train platform when catching the train back to Manhattan from the Brighton Beach stop in Brooklyn. See more photos at This Link.

I pass by this cool mural nearly every time I take a train into or out of Times Square, but I just stopped to take a photo of it this past weekend, when I had a few minutes to spare on my way way to see Hedwig and The Angry Inch starring Michael C. Hall (which, by the way, is fantastic). Installed in 2002, Times Square Mural captures the spirit of the subway, its linear movement and dynamic energy. With a nod to both the past and the future- its central image is a futuristic, bullet-shaped car zipping through an underground station. And not just any station, this is Times Square, in the heart of New York City.

In September of 2103, NYC-based design firm Sagmeister & Walsh was commissioned by the DUMBO Improvement District in partnership with Two Trees Management Co and the NYCDOT Urban Art Program to paint two 80 foot long murals on the walls of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway underpass, on Jay Street in Dumbo.
