Horse Head Vacuum Cleaner
Here’s another cool design item I spotted while browsing in the Chamber boutique on West 23d Street a couple of weeks back. Horse Bust (Chess Piece) was designed by Antwerp, Belgium-based partnership Studio Job and crafted from Polished bronze, 24K gold gilding, paint, hand-blown glass, LED, a Nilfisk GM 80 P Vacuum Cleaner. It is available in an Edition of 4 pieces only.
According to the designers, Chess Piece, was designed for artist Jeff Koons, and combines references to Koon’s work.

When I was invited to an exhibit of “Functional Art Glass,” my first reaction was, WTF is Functional Art Glass? Then I read a little bit further into the press release and realized that, back in the day, a piece of Functional Art Glass was referred to as a Water Pipe, or a Bong. And now, it is functional art! I can’t tell you how much I love knowing this. As Andy Warhol once said, “Art is What You Can Get Away With.”

Mannequin with Quartz Crystal Face
The proper name for this mannequin with quartz crystals jutting from her face is Sculpture for Lost Space or an Object, and it is constructed of Wood, Mannequin, Quartz, and Silicone by artist Atsushi Tawa. Priced at $8,500 and available from Kasher Potamkin in the Chelsea Gallery District.
