Happy Birthday Wishes to Ringo Starr!

Ringo Birthday
‘This Boy’ is Sixty-Seven Years Old Today!

July 7, 2007 is supposed to be the luckiest day this year, so what a great day to have a birthday! Not only was Beatles‘ drummer Ringo Starr born on this date in 1940, but today is also the anniversary of birth for skater Michelle Kwan, classical composer Gustav Mahler and comic Jim Gaffigan. Have a lucky Birthday all you fierce Cancer people out there!

Happy Birthday, George Harrison!

All Things Must Pass: 1943-2001 (George Harrison with Paramahansa Yogananda)

George Harrison my favorite Beatle, was born on this day, February 25th in 1943. I am celebrating his birthday today by playing All Things Must Pass, which is not only his best album but arguably the best solo album by any former Beatle. That includes Paul McCartney’s Ram and what ever John Lennon album has “#9 Dream” on it. If you find yourself in the mood today to get a bit nostalgic about George, here’s an excellent article/memorium on his life and career.

Happy Birthday Al and John!!

I would like to wish a Happy Birthday (and Happy Columbus Day) to my pal Al Jourgensen and also to the late great John Lennon, both of whom must be honored and feted for their signifcant contributions to modern music. Jesus Built My Hot Rod, indeed.

“I’m Gonna Let the Music Move Me Around…” RIP Billy Preston

R.I.P. Billy Preston

On June 6th, 2006, Billy Preston, often known as the fifth Beatle, passed away at the age of 59. Preston was recruited to record with The Beatles by George Harrison and performed on The White Album, Let it Be and Abbey Road. He also played with major artists like Neil Diamond, Ray Charles and The Rolling Stones, wrote the Joe Cocker 1974 hit “You Are So Beautiful” and had a dozen or so hits of his own. My personal favorite was “Will It Go ‘Round In Circles,” which was a #1 hit when I was 12.

Preston had been in a coma since November 2005, after suffering kidney failure brought on by a lifelong drug addiction. Rest In Peace.
