A few weeks ago, we went over to  The Fashion Institute of Technology to check out the 2017 MFA in Illustration Visual Thesis Exhibition, which was entitled 13 Stories.  It is while visiting the exhibit that I discovered a cool Pink Thing created by FIT student and MFA candidate Necdet Yilmaz, who is a native of Turkey.  Necdet’s visual thesis, Happy Tank, is a story about a little machine built for war that doesn’t want to fight. Happy Tank must be sent to war, but refuses to fire at a large building where a child is seen crying. For disobeying the order, Happy Tank is decommissioned and melted down. The story concludes with Happy Tank being recycled and used to construct a playground years after the war is over. Continue reading Pink Thing of The Day: Happy Tank

Remembering Our Veterans

Veterans Day

Like some of you out there, my office is closed today in observance of Veteran’s Day, so I have the day off work. Even though I enjoyed the hedonistic pleasure of staying in bed like a sloth until the ungodly hour of 8:30 AM, I am nevertheless using my time off to get some work done; transcribing an interview for an artist bio I have on deck. There are worse ways to spend a quiet weekday at home. At any rate, I wanted to give a shout out to all of the men and women who have served our country through military service. My Dad, who just celebrated his ninetieth birthday last month, is a retired career Marine and a proud Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. The stories he could tell you would blow your head right off. He is awesome and I am proud that he is my Dad. I am not a fan or supporter of any war, but I support our troops. President Obama, please bring our guys home.

Must See Movie of The Week: The Hurt Locker

Hurt Locker
Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie Star in The Hurt Locker

This past Sunday, Geoffrey and I went to see the “Iraqi bomb squad” movie that everyone is talking about, The Hurt Locker. It’s taken me a couple of days to digest my thoughts, because “intense” is really not strong enough of a word to describe this movie-going experience. And I usually don’t like war movies – the exception being Full Metal Jacket – but I really liked The Hurt Locker, and wanted to blog about it, but was having trouble translating my thoughts into words.

This morning I found a really fantastic review of the movie on, of all places, a financial newsletter I read daily at my office job. So I just decided to post that and credit the source, because it’s a really excellent movie and, review-wise, I really couldn’t do any better than this. Review courtesy of Here Is The City. Come to a Pillow Fight

Pillow War!!
Looks like a bit of a “Pillow War” to Me

Is it just me, or does this Saturday’s Pillow Fight NYC to be held in Union Square look like a hundred potential personal injury lawsuits just waiting to happen?
