Intermission Beauty Products Put the Spotlight On You

‘Never Take a Break From Looking Great’ is the fun tagline for Intermission Beauty, a cosmetics line I discovered while visiting BroadwayCon in late January. The line was created by Douglas Otero, a singer, dancer and actor-turned celebrity makeup artist who wanted to create a line of fabulous lipsticks. Douglas also wanted to team-up with Broadway’s finest stars, and bring awareness to the cause of preventing animal cruelty. He decided that the lipstick shade names would be inspired by the vibrancy of the theater’s fiercest Divas, as well as his own love of musicals. After years of rehearsal, the big red curtain finally lifted and the Broadway Diva Series for Intermission Beauty took the stage.

Intermission’s Broadway Diva Series features lipsticks named after, created and hand picked by the Divas themselves. The lipsticks are paraben-free, gluten-free, and made with as few ingredients as possible so they are good for you and good for the environment. Whether you’re the lead, in the ensemble, or behind-the-scenes, you are sure to find a color that will complement your style. Portions of the proceeds from sales of the Broadway Diva Series lipsticks benefit the ASPCA and The Humane Society, pushing the efforts to end cruelty to animals once and for all!

Intermission Facial Mists By Gail Worley

Intermission has also recently introduced a line  of organic, all-natural-ingredient facial mists in two varieties: The Enchanted Rose and Under the Sea.  Both are beneficially hydrating, with a pure ingredient list unlike other mist products, which are generally made mostly of water, and can contain fragrance or alcohol. The Enchanted Rose is for all skin types while Under the Sea is ideally suited for drier skin types. Both mists will have you glowing in a few minutes time, which is why Intermission suggests misting after cleansing, and before your skincare routine. You may also mist after applying your makeup or in the middle of the day to recharge and refresh.

Pink Thing of The Day: Pink Vaseline

Pink Vaseline

I don’t think you can truly understand how very much I wanted to purchase this tiny jar of Pink Vaseline when I spied it conveniently planted in the point-of-purchase area as I waited to check out at Duane Reade. It is very beautiful and pink and tiny (and therefore nearly irresistible me) but I already have lip gloss in my pocketbook and a normal size jar of regular Vaseline at home., so I was able to resist an impulse purchase. Gail: 1, Duane Reade: 0.

The packaging design of this fragrant body spray is almost too pink to resist, especially when you add the fluorescent, multi-colored lip prints. Even the fragrance name, “Pink Vanilla Kiss Fantasy” sounds almost edible. And I guess that is what good advertising is all about: compelling you to purchase a product based solely on how it looks on the shelf. Oh, the Pinkness.

BARESKIN By bareMinerals is a Highlight of Beautycon NYC!

Anne and I spent a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon checking out Beautycon NYC over at Pier 36 event space. While this event appears to be very finely focused on Teens, we managed to have some fun checking out the various Beauty Brands bringing their products directly to the enthusiastic throng of fans that came out on a cloudy day for this annual event.

We especially enjoyed our time spent at the bareMinerals booth, where they are celebrating the launch of their new liquid foundation make up and eye primer, BARESKIN, which is a fantastic product. Their whole line is making waves, even the best anti wrinkle cream from established brands should watch out!

BARESKIN is non-nomedogenic, containing no oils, silicone, water, parabens or fragrance. But while it’s formulated with the bare minimum ingredients, there is no sacrificing of benefits. As it was explained to us, the ultra-thin fluid harnesses dynamic mineral pigments suspended in a serum base. Combined with the potent blend of vitamin C and Lilac plant stem cells, this good–for–you formula is a tone–correcting mineral foundation and skincare serum in one. It also has a 20 SPF. Wow!

What’s fun about applying the foundation is the special “buffing” applicator brush that been designed just for this purpose.   Engineered with a unique fluid reservoir in its center, the intelligent brush design lets you adjust your coverage, adding one drop at a time, for a truly seamless application. It also feels really good on your face. However, we always recommend to do a blackhead vacuum procedure before using makeup.

Both Anne and I had our skin tones matched to the appropriate BARESKIN shade and bareMinerals PR rep Quinta Gaines was kind enough to give each of us a professional application so we could see how the product looks on our skin. Quinta pointed out that because there’s no water in the foundation is important to shake it very thoroughly before applying it to your skin (each bottle has mixing beads in it, just like you find with nail polish). She said to think of the application process in this way, Shake, Drop, Buff. Just one drop actually goes a long way and you can report repeat the application with several drops until you get the coverage you like. She also very generously gifted each of us with a bottle of our appropriate shade of BARESKIN, and the applicator brush.

BARESKIN is available in 20 shades and retails for $29, while the unique brush applicator has a $28 retail price. Shop for both and other Skinstitut products online.

Yes It Exists: Lookin’ Good For Jesus Fix It Kit

Looking Good For Jesus Kit

OK, someone’s hand is holding this, so it has to exist, right? I did a little Googling just to make sure and, yes, it is a real thing! The Lookin’ Good For Jesus Fix It Kit contains a mirrored Jesus statuette, vanilla nectar lip balm, Easter-Lily hand & body cream (with sparkle!) and a folding mirror compact. The top of the package, adorned with eerie looking cartoon women staring googly-eyed at the Lord, says “Get His Attention.” Clearly this treads a fine line between ‘Cool’ and ‘Oh So Wrong.’ All I can say is let your conscience be your guide. Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer: All You Need for a Colorful Summer!

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish Ad

One of my favorite things about summer is  wearing my sandals as often as possible so I can rock a pedicure featuring the most vibrant Hot Pink nail color I can find. If you were fortunate enough to get a peek inside my bathroom cabinet, you would see a shelf stocked with various shades of pink, purple, magenta and fuchsia shades of nail color in sparkly and mat finishes —  because even though I like to dwell in the pink domain, I do like to change it up. Pink. Nail Polish. I am all about it.

Now, you are probably not going to even believe that this is even possible, but earlier this week I was invited to a party thrown by (Smart. Beautiful.) Maybelline to announce / celebrate the launch of their new line of Nail Lacquer called Color Show, that not only included free food and alcohol, but also free manicures! Color Show! Inspired by the colors and textures of the runway, Color Show comes in about a gazillion shades of the spectrum, from creamy to shimmery to glittery, but most importantly lots of shades of pink!

Color Show Crushed Candy Nail Lacquer

“Crushed Candy”

For my complimentary manicure (which included a hand massageomg) I chose a lacquer shade called Crushed Candy, which is a glittery, sparkly Hot Pink Fuchsia that looks so fantastic on my nails I simply cannot stop looking at my hands. Seriously, I am looking at them right now! Two coats covered my nails with a bright pink coat of shiny awesomeness, but then I put an extra coat on because I wanted to add a little extra on the tips of my nails, which is a good hint to extend a manicure when you use your hands as much as I do. As of right now my manicure is just over 36 hours old and I don’t have a single chip despite the fact that I type on a computer keyboard all day long.

Maybelline gave everyone at the party the super cool gift of a small make up case filled with 32 generous sample shades of Color Show. Please enjoy the anticipation of the gradual reveal!
