Would you pay $400 for a lipstick? No way! How about $400 for high heels? Well, maybe. Luxury footwear brand Alberto Guardiani, founded in 1940 by brothers Luigi and Dino Guardiani, initially manufactured men’s shoes under the Nuova Centauro brand (which still exists). Alberto, the son of Dino, took over the business in 1972 and the brand is now one of the leading Italian manufactures of shoes and accessories. Two of fashion’s sexiest accessories – red lipstick and black high heels – come together for their remarkable Lipstick Heel Pumps collection.
This matching Bracelet and Brooch are composed of a vibrant rainbow of resin Lipsticks that humorously assert the decorative nature of cosmetic products. While both by Karl Lagerfeld and the jewelry designer Ugo Correani were known for their postmodern sampling of objects and ideas, the tendency to inflate scale in order to invest drama was a particular strength of Correani. ‘Never Take a Break From Looking Great’ is the fun tagline for Intermission Beauty, a cosmetics line I discovered while visiting BroadwayCon in late January. The line was created by Douglas Otero, a singer, dancer and actor-turned celebrity makeup artist who wanted to create a line of fabulous lipsticks. Douglas also wanted to team-up with Broadway’s finest stars, and bring awareness to the cause of preventing animal cruelty.

Eastern European painter and sculptress, Agne Kisonaite, created this stunning sculpture, entitled simply Giant Lipstick, using over 5000 used lipstick tubes. Measuring a height of 2.5 meters (8 feet) with an overall weight of 200kg (440 pounds), the sculpture is incredibly modern and yet timelessly beautiful. Agne made the sculpture to draw attention to the need for green effort consciousness with regard to reduction, recycling and reuse here in our consumer culture.
