It’s always a good day when I wander into R & Company on Franklin Street, because there’s no telling what kind of design sorcery will be waiting inside. During a recent visit, one piece in particular caught me eye: a towering, fur-covered illuminated sculpture by artist and designer Rogan Gregory that looked less like a lamp and more like a benevolent life-form that drifted in from a warmer, softer dimension.

The Haas Brothers Madonna at Marianne Boesky Gallery

Michelle O Palma, Marble Sculpture (All Photos By Gail)
The last time I can recall entering an art exhibit that completely transported me to another world, I think I was here, or even here. So, yeah, it’s been a while. I nearly missed Madonna — not the pop star, but the first solo exhibition of work by The Haas Brothers — at Marianne Boesky Gallery, but I made a special trip after work just a few days before the exhibit closed on October 26th, because I knew, if the photos I’d seen were any indication, that I’d regret not having the opportunity to experience this whimsical group of flora and fauna in person. Pink Thing of The Day: Pink Dog Thing By Rafa Macarron
Last month, I went to see an exhibit over at the Allouche Gallery in the Meatpacking district by an artist called Rafa Macarron. I’ve seen his work at the gallery previously and was very attracted to the almost fluorescent colors he uses in his irregular-surfaced paintings, which feature a variety of his long legged, alienesque cartoon creatures floating within a dream-like universe of fresh and harmonic hues. Among the many paintings, and a few sculptures, way over in a remote corner of the gallery, I spotted this three sided diorama called Caja, which means Box in Spanish. Inside one of the tiny viewing windows, I saw this little Pink Dog Thing hanging out. Fog By Gary Panter (All Photos By Gail)
Fredericks & Freiser Gallery is hosting Dream Town, an exhibition of new paintings by Gary Panter for just a few more days! I didn’t get around to seeing this show until last weekend, and just noticed that it closes this coming Saturday, so I wanted to get this post up so you can run over and see it because it is really special. Cute Creature on Front of Never Grow Up T-Shirt Looks Familiar
I’m pretty sure that the fun design on the front of this cute and comfy T-shirt (available to purchase for just $21.95 at This Link) is modeled on Ben the Pink Axolotl, who was previously profiled on The Worley Gig Right Here.
What do you think?
