Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Snag Golden Globe Nomination for The Social Network

The Golden Globe nominations were announced today, which is always exciting because it gives you some insight as to what to expect for the Oscar noms a little ways down the road. In the Best Original Score category, I was pleased to see Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross included for the skull-splittingly brilliant soundtrack they penned for The Social Network – my pick for Best Picture of The Year. Congrats, Trent and Atticus, and good luck on awards night!

Classic Punk Rock Single of The Day: The Clash, “Straight to Hell”

Straight to Hell

On this Date in 1982: The Clash released their nineteenth single, “Straight To Hell” as a double-A side which included “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?” In the U.S., “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?” was the feature track and reached the #45 spot on the singles chart. When “Straight to Hell” was re-released in 1991 with a different B side, it reached the #1 spot in the U.K. “Straight to Hell” is my favorite song by The Clash. Clash vocalist Joe Strummer also starred in the 1987 Alex Cox film Straight To Hell, which took its name from the song.

Actor Michael Pitt as Some Guy Pretending to be Kurt Cobain

Gee whiz, this movie is such a stunning piece of cinematic trash that to call it “The Worst Movie Ever in the Universe of All Time” is to perhaps pay it too high of a compliment.

Match Point: That’s Hot!

Match Point
Uber-Hotties Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Scarlett Johansson Star in Match Point

If you’re as much of a movie freak as I am and you haven’t yet seen the newest Woody Allen flick, Match Point then you simply must run out and see it immediately because this movie fucking rocks! I went in not really knowing what the movie was about beyond a basic plot thread of “British Tennis Pro meets American Actress in London” and I was completely blown away! As with movies like The Crying Game, A History of Violence and Million Dollar Baby it is really to your advantage to see this film knowing as little in advance as possible because the surprises and plot twists are delicious. Go see it and leave a comment and tell me what you thought.
