Better be careful when reaching into this glazed ceramic bowl for a handful of chips or nuts, because you might be dipping your hand into the gaping maw of a big blue Shark!

Say Ahhhh!

Dubbed the ‘Shark Attack Snack Bowl‘ by me, this visually delightful and seriously functional bowl was spotted in the booth for Italian decorative glassware manufacturer Egizia 1949, which is based in Tuscany. Additional examples of their their glassware can be seen in the background of the first photo in this post.

Sadly, I was unable to locate the bowl on their website, so I can’t quote a price. This bowl is perfect for filling with the snack of your choice at your next Shark Week party, and of course it makes an ideal gift for your loved one who loves Sharks.

Do you like shopping? I sure do. Imagine that you own a store, maybe one that sells neat things like those you find on this blog, and you had to shop for cool inventory to sell in your store. Where would you go to find those neat things? Well, one place you can go for your one-stop shop shopping is the Retail Renaissance NY Now wholesale gift trade show, which features thousands of handmade, home, and lifestyle gift items  all under one roof. NY Now takes place at the Javits Center twice annually, in the winter and summer, and it gets exponentially better with each passing seasonal edition. I always have a fun time at NY Now, but the Summer show that just happened in August was mind-blowingly great. Really. Wow.

Vase Display With Protea

I tend not to recap my visits to NY Now because it’s massive, and I just end up blogging about a handful of the coolest items spotted on the show floor. But because I had so many great photos this time, I feel compelled to share them with you. Don’t expect much commentary, because this post is mainly about taking you on a little visual journey, but if you have questions about anything in this piece please speak up in the comments and I’ll be sure to address your inquiries!

Pink Thing of the Day: David Bowie Quote on Book Spines

David Bowie Quote on Book Spines

This quote by the late great David Bowie — “Tomorrow Belongs to Those Who Can Hear it Coming” — gets a vibrant new life when printed on the spines of horizontally stacked book that have been wrapped in pink paper or vinyl. According to this source, “Tomorrow belongs to those who can hear it coming” was the slogan David Bowie coined to promote Heroes, the second installment of his great Berlin album trilogy. It neatly captures one of his most important talents: to intuit the future and draw it forward into the popular culture of the present. Sometimes he would simply grasp the importance of a trend, as when he understood that the arrival of the internet would transform the economics of the music industry and the relationship between artists and audiences. But more often it was his artistry in self-reinvention that opened up new modes of cultural expression or brought shooting up to the surface deeper social trends. When he famously threw his arms round Mick Ronson’s shoulders on Top of the Pops, he was doing more than advertising his bisexuality. He was helping catalyze the liberation in the politics of sexual identity that would unfold in the 1970s.

Shark Attack Backpack!

Shark Attack Backpack

I spotted this adorable Shark Backpack for kids at the Gift Show at Javits Center this past weekend. The tag say it’s by Jack And Friends, a company that also makes super soft and cuddly animal blankets for Babies. You could probably find this wherever their other times are sold. These newborn baby clothes would go perfect with the backpack. So cute!
