Most of the props, sets, costumes, and models from the film 2001: A Apace Odyssey (1968) were intentionally destroyed by Director Stanley Kubrick to prevent their reuse in other productions; this surviving Aries 1B Spaceship Model is a rarity.
Do you like Sharks? I sure do. That’s why I could. not. stop. taking photos of this life-size (read: humungous) model a prehistoric Megalodon Shark, which is a main attraction of the recently opened Sharks special exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in NYC. Here are some cool Megalodon facts I learned while exploring the exhibit.
Damien Hirst’s 2005 work, Virgin (Exposed) reimagines Edgar Degas’s The Little Fourteen Year-Old Dancer as a pregnant specimen, while its title references the Virgin Mary and the Immaculate Conception.
Its garish colors recall the anatomical models and illustrations found in physicians’ offices. Partially flayed and cross-sectioned, the work also evokes historical anatomical female figures whose abdomens could be opened, often to prurient effect, to reveal reproductive organs. However, here there is no frisson of revelation and concealment, and instead the female interior is unsparingly exposed in the public space of a gallery.
Photographed in The Met Breuer (Now Closed) as Part of the 2018 Exhibit, Like Life: Sculpture, Color and The Body.
Flashing back to a fun day spent at the Five Points Festival back in June, 2018, we remember passing by this epic likeness of Brazilian model Paula Almeida by artist Angel A. You can see it for yourself at the southeast corner of West Street and Milton Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
This year, ICC’s Annual Gingerbread Village is located in the midst of all the holiday hustle and bustle, in the Times Square Urbanspace Market. This edible showpiece made entirely of gingerbread, icing, and sugar celebrates two distinct eras of Times Square: the classic Christmas traditions of the 1980s and the excitement of today’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.
You can find many iconic NYC structures in this Winter Wonderland, including:
The Westin Hotel
NYE Ball Drop
Military Recruitment Center
The Gingerbread Village was designed by the Professional Pastry Arts students and Chef-Instructors of the International Culinary Center will be on display 7 days a week from through December 23r, 2017 between the hours of 11 am and 9 pm (ET).
