It’s not easy keeping track of all the pop-ups and limited- time-only happenings the NYC art scene, but when your timing is right, the payoff is excellent. For just ten days in September (the 10th through 20th), something very shiny and decidedly surreal took up residence on NYC’s High Line. auruBOROS — Urban Memory and Collective Dream, a monumental inflatable sculpture commissioned by Bulgari, twisted its way across a section of the elevated park directly under The Standard hotel, turning an already visually interesting stretch of Manhattan into something that felt otherworldly.
Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848 – 1933) made a series of jewelry designs composed of moonstones and Montana sapphires set in platinum. This necklace (circa 1910), one of the most elaborate, features moonstones of irregular sizes and shapes intersperse with the design of twisted scrolls, each enclosing four tiny sapphires. The piece could be worn as one large elaborate necklace with pendant, as seen here, or it could be separated into discrete items and worn as a choker or a bracelet with the pendent wearable as an independent brooch.
