Marilyn Minter’s sensual paintings, photographs, and videos vividly explore complex and contradictory emotions around beauty and the feminine body in American culture. She trains a critical eye on the power of desire, questioning the fashion industry’s commercialization of sex and the body. Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty, now on view at the Brooklyn Museum, is the first retrospective of her work.
I snapped this photo of a Danielle Mastrion Portrait on Lafayette Street just above Canal in Chinatown while I was on Jury Duty earlier this week. You can see some remnants of snow from last weekend’s storm at the bottom of the picture.

This eye-catching replica of The Rolling Stones‘ famous Sticky Fingers Logo — created entirely from empty Coca Cola cans — is part of a larger exhibit of Rolling Stones‘ inspired art and memorabilia celebrating the band’s fifty years together.
Spotted in the Window of the Hoerle-Guggenheim Gallery, Located at 527 West 23rd Street, in the Chelsea Gallery District.
It’s really been years since we spotted any work by the mysterious British Street Artist Sweet Toof in the neighborhood, but maybe that is just because we do not know where to look! Immediately recognizable for the distinctive, over-sized Gums on the character, this cheerful mural can be found at the northeast corner of Broome and Bowery in downtown Manhattan.
Update:Sweet Toof (@onlysweettoof) recently tweeted at me to inform me that this shutter mural is actually a collaboration between him and DarkClouds. So, thanks for that!
