You might be surprised to hear that I’ve discovered an Italian restaurant that emulates the intimate feel of dining in the home of well-to-do friends, while offering a variety of excellent regional dishes unequaled in a venue of its size. Do you remember the first time you heard the brand name Effen Vodka, and how it made you giggle and make adolescent jokes? While Effen, appropriately, means ‘smooth’ in Dutch, a new breakfast place in the Flatiron neighborhood, Effin Egg is all about getting some effin’ eggs, man! We are officially here for the eggs and the jokes, because Effin Egg — which celebrated its grand opening on September 8th  — is serving up a wide variety of  tasty breakfast treats with a side of hilarious snark. Win win!

Do you like Italian food? I sure do.  Since my favorite neighborhood  place closed before Covid, and Arthur Avenue is a long haul if you’re not already in the area,  I’ve been looking for a restaurant that strikes the perfect balance of location, service, atmosphere and, of course, delicious food, to steal my heart away. Little did I suspect that I would discover a new favorite Italian place in the excellent Masseria dei Vini, conveniently located around the corner from my office. Win win! Where did the summer go? We’re on the cusp of Labor Day already and I haven’t even taken my vacation yet! Here I am relaxing poolside at the Dominick Hotel, enjoying roast pork tacos and frozen cocktails (not shown) as part of a Summer Luau at their Terrace on 7 restaurant El Ta’koy, which serves Hawaiian fare. It was a lovely evening.

Do you like pastry? I sure do, but my  favorite pastry shop in my east village neighborhood closed years ago and now everything is a trek. Fortunately, I just discovered an amazing pastry shop and café that’s literally across the street from my office. Let me introduce you to Masseria Caffé!
