If you remember the old CBGB rock club located at Bleecker and Bowery in NYC, then you know that the above Gingerbread rendering of the club’s former façade is pretty spot on. These days, the space is home to the John Varvatos men’s clothing boutique, which is still worth a visit even if you can’t afford the $500 sweaters they sell.

Midtown Manhattan on a Desk Top
This scale miniature of Midtown Manhattan by artist Michael Chesko took 2000 hours to complete. As reference, Chesko used blueprints, old photographs, digital reproductions, and satellite images. On a good day, he’d work his way through four city blocks. The entire model is 36″ x 30″ – a good deal smaller than most office desks. At the 1:3200 scale, the Empire State Building is approximately the height of a Campbell’s Soup can.

Urban Field Trip of the Week: Ikea!

Today Geoffrey and I had a very exciting adventure together when we hauled our tight little asses out to Redhook, Brooklyn and spent a couple of hours wandering around in a daze inside the gargantuan new Ikea that opened just last Wednesday. It was so much fun! Here’s what I came back to the city with:
4 Black 20-inch square throw pillows
1 Multi-colored rag rug for my kitchen floor
1 Vanilla candle in reusable glass holder
1 Lint roller
Total cost for all this loot: $20!!
Gee wiz, what a bargain! I will be returning to Ikea again and again!
Come to a Pillow Fight

Looks like a bit of a “Pillow War” to Me
Is it just me, or does this Saturday’s Pillow Fight NYC to be held in Union Square look like a hundred potential personal injury lawsuits just waiting to happen?
