One of the vendors I always make sure to visit at the twice-yearly NY Now gift show is Steve Parkes Wholesale. Steve travels extensively — mostly throughout African countries — where he sources local crafts to bring back to the States. Among his suppliers is a workshop in Madagascar that creates miniature cars and ornaments from discarded tin cans, and let me tell you, they are fabulous.

Caribbean Holiday Santa Claus Ornament

If you live in a tropical climate, or even a place like Southern California or Florida (I’m sorry) where you can hit the beach nearly year-round, maybe your idealized version of St. Nick looks a little bit like this guy. While Santa’s floatie looks to be a little bit snug around the middle, at least he’s got an impressive cocktail to keep him refreshed! Happy Holidays, wherever you are!

Taco Tuesday Has a Mascot!

How cute is this little felted Taco with a Mustache tree ornament? Answer: so darn cute. Let us make him the official Worleygig mascot of Taco Tuesday, shall we?  Sure, why not. This festive little guy was spotted by me a few weeks back at NY Now summer marketplace in the booth for Ornaments 4 Orphans, a for-profit, fair trade social enterprise dedicated to providing critical support for orphans and vulnerable children in Africa. They use ethical and sustainable business practices, create jobs, fight poverty, preserve intact families, empower communities, and ultimately prevent children from becoming orphans. You can browse their huge selection of beautiful, hand-crafted ornaments, and do a bit of early holiday shopping for a good cause, at This Link!

Merry Christmas 2020, From The Worley Gig!

While looking through a folder I keep of holiday-themed photos that I can use for blog posts when I need an image in a pinch, look what I found! Jesus, what a perfect ornament to punctuate a year that has — no one would argue — not been anyone’s favorite. As we move towards the light of 2021, let’s all try to find something to be grateful for on this Christmas day. While I am unable to be with my family and friends in California for the holidays, because of the Covid, I am making the most of staying here in NYC, where I tend to miss out on the best parts of the season because I am always out of town at this time of year. So, Merry Christmas, bitches, and my best to all of you!
