A mostly forgotten (if not widely-known) fact about me is that, in my high school years, my nickname was Wizard. The backstory on that takes way too long to talk about, but Wizard is nevertheless a word and a thing that has remained near and dear to my heart through the years. So, to come across a Pink Wizard: that is a pretty big deal! While Geoffrey and I were making the seen at this past weekend’s Five Points Festival in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, we came across this little guy in the booth for Sad Salesman, a collectible figure and toy company run by Eric Althin, who used to own the late great Bold Hype, one of our favorites among the Chelsea Art Galleries. We miss them so much, so it’s awesome to know that Eric is still making cool art and bringing it to the masses! Eric designs and sculpts all of Sad Salesman’s original characters! I saw this little guy in the Barnes and Noble shop in Union Square, and was so tickled by his name alone that I had to snap a photo for the sole purpose of featuring him in this week’s Yes, It Exists column. From what I can garner off the interwebs, Mr. Poopy Butthole is character on the Adult Swim cartoon series, Rick & Morty, which I have only just started watching. If you feel compelled to know more about Mr. Poopy Butthole — and really, who could blame you for being curious — he has his own Wiki page located at This Link!

Oh man, these are really cool! Dark Horse has introduced an upcoming line of large-size vinyl figures based on the characters from Tim Burton’s book of short fiction, The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories. This new 6” line brings forward the special nuance of each individual creation and fits very nicely into the ever-growing popularity of “designer vinyl” collectible toys. Three releases are planned for the end of 2009: Oyster Boy, Stain Boy and Toxic Boy. Pricing or run size is not yet available. My friend Vinny owns this book and I’ve read a few of these stories, which are just crazy, so these toys should attract a lot of Tim Burton fans and memorabilia collectors!
