Pink Jungle: 1950s Makeup in America was a pop-up exhibit that happened in late 2020 (mid-pandemic!) at a temporary location of the Makeup Museum across the street from the Whitney. While I could never quite distill the essence of my visit into a full post, it did yield a few fun Pink Things, such as this promotional poster, which I’m sure you’ll agree is quite fantastic

Ram Hood Ornament on 1950’s-era Dodge
I see this classic Dodge parked on the street across from my house most days. I’m not sure which model year it is, but I think mid-to-late 1950s is a safe best. Anyway, I noticed it has this cool Ram Hood Ornament. Very nice.
Andy Warhol, 1950s Drawings at Anton Kern
Don’t think for one second that I didn’t fully appreciate the fact that Anton Kern Gallery painted its walls Pepto Bismol Pink for its current exhibit of Andy Warhol Drawings. Because I did.
Andy Warhol: 1950s Drawings brings together 150 never before seen works on paper from the late 1940s through 1960. They show Warhol as a skilled draftsman and great experimenter. Using ink and graphite, he investigated the possibilities of the hand-drawn line, and in the course of this developed his characteristic blotted-line technique, which involved tracing projected photographic images onto paper and blotting the inked figures to create variations on a theme. I moved into the house I grew up in during the early ’60s. Our house was considered to be very “Modern” for the time, and we weren’t lucky enough to have pink bathroom fixtures, but I had a few friends whose family bathrooms looked a lot like this. Me = jealous.
