Pink Thing of The Day: Pink Cast Resin Hermès Birkin Bag
Homemade Hermès Birkin Bag (Pink), Cast Resin, 2013 by Shelter Serra (Photo By Gail)
Casting and plating the objects in unlikely materials — resin, plaster, platinum, silicone and copper — Shelter Serra strips them of their intended functionality. He highlights their underlying cultural symbolism and transforms branded products into objects of aesthetic contemplation, offering a new perspective on materialism in today’s society. Serra states, “refining an aesthetic and making beautiful objects, whether that be a dress, bag or sculpture is a celebration of pure creativity and personal vision.”
Available from the PK (Paul Kasmin) Shop Located at 511 West 27th Street for $3500.
