If such thing had to exist, it’s appropriate that this Shark Attack velvet dress shirt was once owned by the great Sir Elton John. Embroidered on the back with his name, Elton and the head of a fierce shark, surrounded by tropical flowers, the shirt is part of a custom suit created for John by designer Gianni Versace around 1996.

Superstar musician Elton John is known for his flamboyant and extravagant stage costumes, especially those he wore during the early 1970s, when he collaborated with various designers to create iconic looks that reflected his unique style. A standout ensemble from 1971 is a beaded neon-satin patchwork tailcoat and trousers, possibly designed by Annet Murray (wife of his bandmate, Dee Murray). John can be seen in his dressing room wearing the jacket in a photograph (below) taken by Terry O’Neill.

Henry Geldzahler (July 9, 1935 – August 16, 1994) was a Belgian-born American curator of contemporary art in the late 20th century, as well as a historian and critic of modern art. He is best known for his work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as New York City Commissioner of Cultural Affairs under Mayor Ed Koch, and for his social role in the art world; having enjoyed close relationships with many contemporary artists.

Christie’s is preparing to bring to auction highlights from David Gilmour’s personal guitar collection on June 20th, 2019 in New York. Comprising more than 120 guitars, Gilmour’s collection focuses on a selection of his preferred Fender models including Broadcasters, Esquires, Telecasters and Stratocasters, led by a guitar as iconic and recognizable as the historic performances for which it was used – the 1969 Black Stratocaster (estimate: $100,000-150,000).
