Schiller’s Liquor Bar Gives Away Free Donuts

Geoffrey and I were sitting on a bench outside of a boutique sandwich shop located at the south west corner of Rivington and Norfolk Streets. This was on Wednesday night at about 6:00 PM. We were waiting to cross the street and check out an opening at Sloan Fine Art Gallery, and we did not want to appear too eager. As Geoffrey was sitting to my left and facing east, he suddenly punctuated our conversation with the phrase, “I think that guy across the street is giving away donuts.” It does not take much more than that to get my attention. I turned to see a man standing just outside the entrance to Schiller’s Liquor Bar, at the south east corner of the intersection, holding a neatly stacked tower of donuts on a silver cake plate.

We made haste to cross the street in his direction. “Are you giving away these donuts?” Geoffrey asked the man? “Yes, something something blah blah free donuts,” the man replied. So, Geoffrey and I each took one of the donuts, which were the old fashioned, plain cake donuts, sprinkled liberally with cinnamon and sugar, and still tasting quite fresh and moist. Yummy! Free Donuts! New York City!

Geoffrey follows the Twitter feed of performance artist Nate Hill. As part of his “Best Art Show 2011″ project, Nate is known for Tweeting a specific location, at which he will show up at a predetermined time and share his latest inspired performance with the unsuspecting people of NYC. Gonzo! East Village Bloggers’ Summit

Earlier today, representatives from the three raddest pop culture blogs on the web, OMG BLOG, WorleyGig and According to G met at restaurant 7A to discuss Brunch food options. The consensus was: California omelet, 7 grain toast, home fries, side of crispy bacon (“like little boards”), fresh-squeezed orange juice and coffee.

Big Fat Snowman in Chinatown

Geoffrey and I got off the F train at the East Broadway stop last evening, enroute an art exhibit for Anthony Michael Sneed when we bumped right into this awesome snowman guarding the corner of Essex and Canal. I’ve kept this picture on the large side so you can see the details, including its tomato buttons and traffic cone hat emblazoned with Chinese characters. Fat Snowman! I know everyone loves to bitch and moan about the snow here in NYC but stuff like this makes it all worth it. And you know what? You’ll probably miss it when it’s gone (sort of, not really).
