Geoffrey I Won The Internet

Do you enjoy meeting Famous People? I’ll tell you who does: my friend Geoffrey. Geoffrey has met more famous people from every possible facet of celebritydom than most actually famous people have met – I’d bet money on it. Go ahead and Google the name of a famous person and hit “Images,” and you’ll likely find a photo of that celebrity with Geoffrey among the first 5 results. JUST BEING SERIOUS.

Being almost singlehandedly responsible for reviving interest in the art of taking the celebrity selfie, Geoffrey has spent the past five years documenting his near-daily photo safari conquests on his wildly popular blog, According 2 G Dot Com, where he shares them with a global audience for the enjoyment of everyone.

Recently, because not everyone can figure out how to click on a hyperlink, Geoffrey wrote and published an indispensable tome for the celebrity–obsessed and social-mediaphiles who simply cannot stop Instagramming photos of their lunch, entitled I Won The Internet!: Daily Wit, Wisdom and Selfies, According to G. This book is outstanding on so many levels.

I Won The Internet! chronicles some of the encounters of Geoffrey as a “Modern Day Zelig” who has met a celebrity born on each day of the year (including Oprah Winfrey, Bono, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Morrissey, James Franco, Lady Gaga, Joan Rivers, Bryan Cranston, Jane Fonda and Ringo Starr) and presents his witty and uncensored one-liners and words of wisdom disguised as Status Updates and Tweets.

This rad book contains two sections of thoughtful and hilarious ideas for people to ponder and share online to make them the most popular person in their social media newsfeed. Geoffrey encourages readers to use this book as a guide to put them at the forefront of pop culture.

Know Thy Selfie

The third section is dedicated to Geoffrey’s unique Celebrity Selfies, which showcase only a fractional portion of his impressive celebrity selfie photos, and daunting autograph collection (30 years in the making). Using I Won The Internet! as a daily calendar, readers get the chance to view these superstars and legends-in-the-making in an entirely different light. The book features 365 exclusive color photographs of some of the biggest names in entertainment, music and art. Last but not least, I Won The Internet!‘s original cover art, which depicts Geoffrey as an adorable Cat Meme (because everybody loves cats!) was conceived and created by pop artist Troy Gua.

Punch Me Panda: The Video!

Geoffrey follows the Twitter feed of performance artist Nate Hill. As part of his “Best Art Show 2011″ project, Nate is known for Tweeting a specific location, at which he will show up at a predetermined time and share his latest inspired performance with the unsuspecting people of NYC. Gonzo! As a prelude to our semi-regular Thursday night art crawl, Geoffrey suggested that we meet up at the corner of Barclay and Broadway, just outside City Hall Park, at 5:30 PM, where Nate would show up as “Punch Me Panda.Neither one of us had any idea what this meant, but we agreed it would be a fun surprise.

At 5:30 PM sharp, Geoffrey called out to me, “I see the Panda,” which was our signal to stake out a safe vantage point to observe the action as Nate-Dressed-as Panda strutted around the vicinity and enthusiastically invited passersby to punch him in the gut (as you can see by the photo above, he was well padded for this activity). The results were both frightening and hilarious, as confused folks just trying to get home from a day at the office either obliged Nate with a few impromptu punches, hurried past as if a six-foot tall Panda were invisible or ran away in terror! Happy Fun! The entire performance lasted about 15 minutes and was completely amazing.

After Nate’s “performance,” Geoffrey chased him down the street so he could get a picture for his blog. I caught up with them a couple of blocks away and was able to meet Nate sans Panda head and tell him how much I enjoyed his art. He was really nice! Good luck Nate on your next adventure on the streets of New York. Follow Nate Hill on Twitter @nateXhill.

Trent Reznor Closes Twitter Account!

Trent Old School

He Used to Be So Hot!

From Gawker:

Trent Reznor has had it with Twitter. The microblogging service let the singer give fans a peek into his personal life; that turned out to be not such a good idea. A great number of celebrities have found Twitter is a great way to communicate directly with the public, without filtering by the news media or a record company. In Reznor’s case, his fan base consisted of a few too many angry, depressed people to make Twitter a pleasant experience. It turns out the industrial rocker’s fans weren’t too happy when he started Twittering about the joys of being in love. And so he warned that he was going quit the Internet: “You are right, I’m not the same person I was in 1994 (and I’m happy about that). Are you?” Rather than fade away as Dave Matthews seems to be doing, Reznor followed up on his threat by just cold deleting his account sometime within the past few days (he posted as recently as July 17). This is especially startling since Reznor has been a pioneer in using the internet to distribute his music and connect with fans. He’s now discovered that it’s possible to connect too closely — and unlike internet fameballers trying to convert online fame into real celebrity, he doesn’t have to pretend otherwise.”

The Milk in the Refrigerator Has Gone Lumpy and Other Things that Make Me Sad

sour-milk

Always Remember to Do a Preliminary Test Sniff Before Pouring in Coffee or on Cereal

Earlier this morning, I visited the shared refrigerator in our office pantry with the intention of pouring lowfat milk onto my bowl of Peanut Butter Puffins cereal (from Trader Joe’s), so that I could enjoy a tasty and satisfying breakfast at my desk. Sadly, this was not to be, for the milk (poured from a carton which was nearly full) had gone sour and thus rendered my very delicious cereal completely inedible.  And though I was able to purchase a reasonably acceptable “replacement breakfast” from our cafeteria (a pecan Danish, three link sausages and several scoops of egg frittata product) it was just not the same as the sweet and crunchy Puffins which I love so well. Sadness.

Another thing that’s making me sad is the knowledge that today is our last day at the office to enjoy wanton access to FaceBook, Twitter and other Social Networking sites before a full-on block of all their URLs goes into effect on July 1. This is a ridiculously huge deal, as everybody here is pretty much addicted to keeping FaceBook open on your desktop all day long while still managing to do all your work. I hope I can live without the ability to send virtual cocktails, exotic fish and plants with human faces to all my friends between the hours of 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM. Sometimes, life just isn’t fair.
