Lyrics Of The Day: Soundgarden, “4th of July”

Fourth July Boston

Shower in the dark day
Clean sparks driving down
Cool in the waterway
Where the baptized drown
Naked in the cold sun
Breathing life like fire
Thought I was the only one
But that was just a lie

Happy National Donut Day!

National Donut Day
Try to Get a Free Donut today, if You think You Can

National Donut Day is a real “celebration” of sorts, which was actually invented by the Salvation Army, and is celebrated on the first Friday in June. Please Google that fact yourself, because I am too exhausted right now to embed a hyperlink on this post. Various donut shop chains around the country are holding different promotions to celebrate this happy day honoring sugar-glazed fried dough.

At the Krispy Kreme, for example, you can get a free donut just by showing up at one of their stores. But at Dunkin Donuts here in New York, you have to buy a beverage in order to get your free donut. At the DD around the corner from where I work – which is basically located in a back alley – they weren’t exactly forthcoming about the “Buy a Bevvy and Get a Free Donut” promotion, but they did eventually acquiesce to giving me a vanilla-frosted donut thing for “free” after initially trying to charge me $3.49 for medium Hazelnut Coffee. Nothing is easy.

Baggage Handlers Destroyed My Suitcase

Not My Broken Suitcase, But an Incredible Simulation

Baggage (mis)handlers at various airports across the country have finally managed to totally fuck the locks on my very expensive suitcase due to the constant re-opening and incorrect re-closing of my bag, necessitated by the endless “Security checks” that go on when you travel these days and have to check luggage. It was especially exciting when all of my shit fell out onto the rain-soaked pavement as I got into my cab at LaGuardia. Thanks, assholes.

F*ck The Snow

Right now, we’re in the early stages of a full on blizzard here in NYC. Normally, I’d be all about the snow. But  today is one of the busiest holiday travel days of the year. So I say, “Fuck the Snow.” American Airlines has already canceled my 2:15 flight to Burbank and if I’m very lucky I’ll make it out on a flight leaving after 8:00 PM tonight, getting me in to LAX around Midnight. At least it’s a direct flight. Now . . . if it  can just get out of NYC I’ll be happy, and snow will be off my shit list.

Happy 4th of July!

Fireworks 2007

I am wishing everyone a Happy and Safe 4th of July. Please remember to wear your sunblock and don’t blow off any digits or extremities, please.
