Riding the Brine: Grillo’s PickLES Pop-Up Brings Pickle-Themed Fun to the LES

For two weeks in June, Grillo’s Pickles brought a burst of vinegary joy to Manhattan’s Lower East Side with PickLES NYC, a limited-time pop-up experience at 2 Rivington Street. Running from June 6th through June 21st, the event transformed the storefront into a pickle lover’s paradise — complete with exclusive snacks, art installations, merch drops, and one truly unforgettable attraction: a kiddie ride shaped like a giant pickle with a saddle on it.

Eye On Design: Muppet Babies Chicken Rocket Kiddie Ride

Something that makes me nostalgic for my suburban childhood  is seeing the cute Kiddie Rides stationed outside Supermarkets and shops when I’m on vacation.  In this Muppet Babies-themed Chicken Rocket (which I will call it, because that is what it is) your child can ride shotgun with baby Kermit, with baby Gonzo (who, apparently, really likes chickens) in the rumble seat. Wee!

Wouldn’t it be fun to be the person who designs the coin-operated Kiddie Rides that you sometimes still see out front of suburban grocery stores and strip malls? They aren’t as easy to find now as they were when I was a kid back in the stone age, but I still enjoy documenting them whenever see one. Because, nostalgia.

I passed this little guy while walking on Broadway near the Flushing Avenue J Train stop in the Bushwick section Brooklyn. I am not sure how much it costs to ride, but Spiderman gets to ride shotgun.
